Blah, I gave Butler the benefit of the doubt last year because Butter had him playing top pairing minutes but he sucked even in a reduced role this past season. If there's anyone on the Flames that's not worthy of getting a qualifying offer it's Butler. If they do get him to sign I hopes it's on a reduced payscale.

I have to admit, really does sound like Lindholm is not on the Flames' radar. Instead of Lindholm I think Nichushkin is right there instead.
So by listening to what they're saying:
1. Barkov
2. Monahan
3. Nichushkin
I cannot see TB moving off of their pick so that leaves #4 and #5 for the Flames to move into. I can see something being worked out for either.

I'll believe it when i see it. I get that this year will be a rebuild year, because there is not much they can do about that. But i don't believe our ownership will have the patience to go through a 3-4 year rebuild. I could see ownership throwing a lot of money at UFA's next summer.

In case anyone missed it... Mark in Hollywood won the 2013 smack off.

@DLSpencer10: Feaster says no decision yet from Kiprusoff on playing future.

How sweet would it be if we ended up in the top 5 and kept the 6th overall pick.

That's fine with me. One year picking 1st overall is more than enough.

I've just considered him gone for so long, I never give him a moment's thought when it comes to next year's roster.

Yeah, the 'always underpromise and overdeliver' strategy is not employed by Feaster.
He certainly sets himself up to fail in that regard.

I hope Kipper decides to play, and agrees to be moved. Would be fantastic to gain some sort of asset by dealing him.

My gut tells me that Feaster probably does not want Kipper back. He probably wants to find out what he has in Ramo and Berra. Getting Kipper back will probably just be a wasted year in which Feaster will still not have a good enough read on Ramo or Berra. Not to mention Kipper will probably not want to be traded if he came back.

I don't see why he wouldn't. He lives in Finland in the off-season, so in coming back to North America for another season, I doubt it would matter that much on whether it would be Calgary or some other destination.
Who knows though....

Could just be me, but it seemed last year that one of the big reasons he did not want to be traded was so he had the chance to retire in a Flames uniform. I could see him maybe saying yes to a trade in the summer, but i don't see him saying yes to a trade at the deadline and missing the chance to retire in a flames uniform by a couple of games.

Yep, no change of feelings here! IF that happens, which I doubt it will.
Fact is, we weren't bad enough for a top five pick, much less top three. Dunno why people keep harping on this point...

Having Kipper in a rebuild shouldn't sit well with the people who want the highest possible draft pick next year. Fact is, if kipper comes back he is going to get more wins for the team than some people would prefer.
My guess is Kipper is done. Everyone on the team pretty much has said this and if he does come back, I can see them and Kipper entertaining a trade if Kipper really wants to play.

Which is why they're trying so hard to move up a spot or two - because Nashville will take Barkov and Carolina will take Monahan as it stands.
If they can't trade up, the Flames need to either take Nichushkin at 6 or else move the pick back - no one else is really worth grabbing at that spot so if you don't want the Russian you move back and pick up another asset.
The Flames seem like a cursed organization - one pick higher and they are guaranteed to get one of the two guys they want but of course that couldn't happen even after the abortion of a season they had. Instead they'll either trade extra assets to get there or miss out completely on the guys they want.
Am a big believer though in earning your breaks and the Flames have been one of the worst managed organizations since the 90s so not going to cry over bad bounces too much.
