I have always liked the draft.

But this year I kind of feel like I deserve to enjoy it since I was one of those people that never once faltered from the view that I want the team to win every game and have never embraced the lose to win philosophy. This made the season doubly bad for me since if losing wasn't bad enough I had to put up with the faction of people that were embracing the loses. I deserve something to be excited about this season.

Yeah, the draft is an annual event for me. I always make sure to book a day off if it's during the week, plant myself on the couch and watch it from start to finish, with the radio in one ear and CP open.

Can't really explain the attraction... probably hope for the Flames' future.

Forgot to link this up from a few days ago, but the second in our 'Scout Series' featuring Zenon Herasymiuk, who scouts some Central WHL for us, plus a host of other events:

Quote:
And in my journeys, a player that never failed to impress was Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Josh Morrissey.

The first thing that stands out when watching Morrissey play is his effortless skating ability and his fearlessness in using it in a multitude of situations. He frequently blows past players in the neutral zone and uses his excellent footwork to shorten his passes and take meaningful ice on the breakout. His hockey sense is elite as he always seems to make quick, yet calculated decisions. Morrissey is one of the best power play quarterbacks in the entire draft class with his smarts, anticipation, and point producing tools.

I figure this one would hit closer to home because of the players that roll through Calgary to play the Hitmen!

I've always loved the draft. It's like a soap opera, such high drama. Who's everyone going to pick? Who trades picks? Which team trades roster players? Which player falls so Pierre Maguire can lose his $&@$ on TV? Which team decides to go off the board? It's just fun. And a good excuse to watch TSN and drink beer.

A lot can happen in that time. A team should not draft for current needs.
A team most certainly should draft to current needs. You look at your prospect pool, figure out what you have a lot of and what you have none of and you draft to fill those needs. Obviously you let BPA influence your decision but if two players are considered "close", you pick the one that plays a position you need.

We need a #1C, our first selection should try to address that need. We also need D and RW. Our other two selections should try to address that. This isn't an absolute rule but at the #22 and #28 picks in this draft there are going to be multiple players that are very close in potential.

For me: If we have Fucale and Morin on the board at 22, we take Morin because we need a big, skilled Dman more than we need another goalie. And again, if we get to #28 and have Zykov and Fucale on the board, I would still pass on Fucale and take Zykov so that we can add a big skilled RW to the team.

Either way, Fucale doesn't really entice me enough to give up on Zykov or Morin (or any number of other prospects that we could select). We simply do not need a goalie and while we are rebuilding we pretty much need everything else except LW.

Draft dream:

6 - Sean Monahan

22 - Curtis Lazar

28 - Josh Morrissey

I know we probably cant get Morrissey at 28 but maybe we can trade #28 and something else to move up. I think he could be a really good d-man in the future.

And drafting two centreman is a no brainer with the current state of our C prospects.

Also wouldn't mind Kerby Rychel at 28 either if he's still around. Projects to be a good two-way center.

Sorry, and not to single you out, but the fans who were frustrated by the team winning meaningless games down the stretch deserve to enjoy the draft no less than you do. This was an extremely difficult season to watch no matter which way you leaned on that controversial issue around these parts.

Frankly, I am a little tired of that divide in the fanbase still being brought up.

^^Whats interesting about that is that we really were never that bad to get 1st or 2nd pick which seem to be clearly above and beyond the rest. Florida and Colorado owned that. There really is not that much between 3-7 based on a lot of the reports, so our move "down" the list only makes it sure that we take who is left and will not leave the Flames open to criticism.

Flames were 3 points out of being 2nd worst. If this had been an 82 game season i have no doubt they would have been bottom 2.

I doubt it, the way Colorado, Carolina and Tampa shamelessly tanked at the end of the season, the gap probably would have been 10 points or more.

I do not really want to see the Flames spending assets to try to move up in this draft. Unless we can somehow get into the MacKinnon sweepstakes (which I think will cost more than it is worth), I do not see a major advantage in moving up from any of our picks at the cost of other valuable assets that we need for the rebuild.

With how deep this draft is said to be the we would have to move up a significant number of spots to get a better quality player than what we will see at our current draft picks.

What are people saying the Tiers are looking like for talent?
1-4
5-12
13-30
31-50

They tanked it after the trade deadline. The flames would have been out of it by December and would have had to wait 2 more months until they could trade JBO and Iggy. Not hard to imagine that in those 2 months the veterans would have lost a lot of games.

I don't think anyone that cheers against their team deserves anything. I think it is sad and pathetic. But hey you are entitled to your opinion as much as I am

I think what's sad and pathetic is acting superior because some fans were hoping for futures once it was clear this season was meaningless and you didn't.
