Don't forget that the team was 10 minutes away from moving to Winnipeg at one point. At the time they needed some guarantees from the city (in the form of that annual subsidy). Now that they need something from the city again, it doesn't surprise me that their stance has changed.

That Seattle move doesn't take into account any relocation fees. More money is needed for that move. The only city ready seems to be Quebec City.

It sounds more like one of those 'send this to 10 people or you'll have bad luck for 7 years' things than anything else.

I'm sure Doan would be well received as team captain in Quebec given those allegations of making anti French comments during a game a few years back

I'm pretty sure Doan would be on the phone instantaneously requesting a trade.

Sherwood said the NHL has told them that, as long as things are moving forward on June 25 when the council meets next, the city likely hold on to the franchise.
Sherwood has circled July 9 on his calendar as the date he believes is the last stand, even though the NHL has not laid down a definitive deadline.

NHL peppers Glendale with power play over Phoenix Coyotes
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/coyo...x-coyotes.html
“What they were saying is that they’ve brought us their candidate,” Glendale city councilman Gary Sherwood said. “And it’s up to us to come up with an arena management deal, period.”
“If we’re not closer than we are now, they said we’ll have to look at it for what it is, and admit this just isn’t working,” Sherwood said.
For Sherwood, that makes Tuesday’s scheduled council meeting extremely important. But there’s a new pipe dream to consider, a mystery candidate that Sherwood would not reveal, one with a lot of cash and better terms for his city.
The mystery buyer told Sherwood he’d have his bid together by Friday. It sounded too good to be true.
I’ll pause while you roll your eyes.
“But that’s part of the problem,” Sherwood said. “There are other groups lurking that the NHL hasn’t brought to us. They have their one candidate. And the way I look at it is, maybe Renaissance (Sports and Entertainment) is the best for the NHL, but maybe only second- or third-best for Glendale.”
Another source said the mystery buyer is real and would bring real money to the table. Renaissance’s deal is heavy on loans, short on equity, and no person has more than a $10 million stake in the game. They want an out clause after four to five years, creating fears that they conceivably could run the team into the ground and bail.
Yet the city council needs to decide in the next two weeks.
“And I’m not sure if we have four votes yet,” Sherwood said.

Two things:
1) My first thought was that the city is now creating a non-existent candidate, or over stating the strength of one, in an attempt to gain some leverage here.
2) The part about fears of the team being run into the ground makes me wonder who on the Coyotes would take on the role of Wild Thing in the inevitable Major League style run to the Cup

Have Glendale not learnt yet that they have to go with the owner that the NHL likes not the other way around. Balsille tried to circumvent kissing the NHL behind and ended up with his head down the toilet.

Questions about ownership bid stall arena deal, Phoenix Coyotes sale
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/m...d.html?ana=twt
Some Glendale officials are worried about:
• The lack of equity and personal investments from Renaissance principals in their bid.
• The bid’s reliance on financing and loans from the National Hockey League and private equity investment firm Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE: FIG).
• Renaissance using funds from an arena deal with Glendale to pay debt service on their financing.
• A possible relocation of the team to Seattle or another market after a few more years in the West Valley.

Finalists to run Jobing.com Arena narrowed to 2
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...-narrowed.html
The short list includes Phoenix Arena Development Limited Partnership and SMG.
The first is a subsidiary of the Phoenix Suns and manages the US Airways Center.
Philadelphia-based SMG manages venues around the world and partnered with the Arizona Cardinals’ Rojo Event Management and Select Artists Associates for the Glendale bid.
The finalists will make presentations to Glendale staff and consultants on Monday and that information will be shared with the City Council in a closed-door session on Tuesday.
Council could then vote on a new arena manager June 25 or opt to go with neither and pursue a deal with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment, the National Hockey League’s chosen buyer for the Phoenix Coyotes.
Councilmember Gary Sherwood said the low number of event companies submitting proposals could made it difficult to discern the fair market value to manage the city-owned arena, which was a primary reason the council put it to bid.
“Obviously I wish that there were 50 finalists,” Mayor Jerry Weiers said.

Even Joyce Clark has doubts about RSE:
http://joyceclarkunfiltered.com/buy-...es-check-hood/
I wrote this blog on June 10, 2013 and have been sitting on it. Late this afternoon, June 13, 2013 Mike Sunnicks of the Phoenix Business Journal reported on Glendale’s concerns about the RSE bid. I share the city’s concerns. I see no reason to hold this back any longer. Remember I am looking at the RSE deal having been a former councilmember. The fact that RSE is using borrowed money to finance this deal with very little of their own equity is disturbing. With such a small proportionality of investment it allows RSE a great deal of latitude to abandon Glendale and relocate in a few years.
I know how desperately fans want to keep the Coyotes here. I share that sentiment but not at any price.
Truthfully, if I were on council, I would not accept this deal based upon the facts that are publicly available about RSE’s deal at this time.
The obvious conclusion is that RSE will bleed money and that will be the rationale for their relocation of the team after a few, short years. Just the news no red-blooded Coyotes fan wants to hear.
