Any CPers heading to Newark, NJ for the Draft? (Destination Preparation)
THW's own Chris Wassel is a local and will be attending the draft. He's doing a series helping incomers get acclimatized to their surroundings.

Don't go to the draft guys, it is boring as hell, you will enjoy it so much more watching it on tv and hearing about the trades as they happen and who people should draft and the reaction to them drafting them. Being there is brutal. I left after six picks the year in ottawa.

I will be in the area and i think i might go. I think the fan interaction and the fact the flames have 3 picks in the first makes this different then a regular draft.
Thanks for the links

I went to the draft in Columbus, and I agree with loob job; it is a really quite boring with little to nothing happening. And even in Columbus, where they have an arena entertainment concept of always having something on the jumbotron to keep you entertained, it got really boring really fast.

If the draft gets boring, you could always take a tour of the numerous auto body shops in the area

I am pretty close by but based on the feedback in the other thread I don't think I will be going.. Better to watch it on TV, hear the analysis and watch the freak out on CP.

I thought about it but won't be going, seems pretty boring. If anyone is going, and is travelling from NYC via Penn Station be sure to hit Pizza Suprema on 8th Ave and 31st for a slice or two. Best slice spot in town.

I will be going and am a first-time participant. Any suggestions from people who have been to a draft before?

Take a bunch of draft guides and an audio device so that you can tune into a live commentary. There's a lot of downtime but if you can follow what's going on it's really exciting, especially this year as a Flames fan. I'd love to be going.
Take some binoculars too, it's fun to watch the GMs go off to the sidelines to try to wheel and deal. I imagine it's even bettter if you can read lips.

Agreed, that is the one day I actually enjoy the talking head analysis and all of the player interviews. They can usually ask some decent questions.
Ahh that is the 30th of June? I will be a Saskatchewan pirate on the lake crushing ice cold Sners' listening to Sheepdogs with a skinny little 160 pound farm girl on my lap, chanting GO GREEN GO (to no one in particular) and enjoying a good ole fashioned game of kaiser.

Thanks for the advice - especially the binoculars. My next question is, how do you listen to the TSN heads from inside the Prudential Centre? I could load it up online on my phone, but I am assuming the roaming data charges would be outrageous.
