Whoever the Flames pick this year won't turn pro untl 2015-16, most likely.

If Gillies turns in another strong year in 13-14, I expect he will turn pro after.

Given the help this franchise needs in forward and defense positions if the Flames pick a goaltender in the 1st round it's an obvious indication they don't view any of the goaltenders in their system as franchise goaltender material.

If the Flames take a D-man with the #6 i will be pissed.
If the Flames trade down, out of the first round and chose not to select a bonafide future NHL'er I will be pissed.
If the Flames take a goalie in the first round without trading a goalie for a pick and prospect, i will be pissed.
If the Flames dont move Tanguay for atleast a 2nd and possibly a prospect, I will be pissed.
I have this terribly disgusting feeling that i am going to be pissed.

You'll be pissed at least once about Tanguay.

Yeah I don't think Tanguay will be moved. We need some "win now" players if Feaster is to follow the direction of getting a team in the playoffs next year.

What happens if you don't end up being pissed? Will you be pissed?

Not sure how Tanguay falls in the "win now" catatgory? He may be a veteran, but he has showed if he is not happy, he will turn off the lights. Feaster has already stated that Tanguay does not want to be part of a rebuild. Feaster needs to move him, just for the lone chance that his lazy play may effect the youngsters.
The flames need some veterans, but the veterans they need have to have a 100% commitment. No chance the flames can get a 2nd for him.

It can't be possible that Feaster is so out of touch with reality that he thinks he can get the Flames into the playoffs next season... I think we can stop with this...or use green text.

No question Tanguay needs to go... Too many LWs and he's the weakest link with regards to the teams future plans.

The last couple years show that he IS that out of touch, regardless of what he spouts off to the media. Nothing is out of the question with this management group.

Then which Flames official said that we need to try and get in the playoffs next year? King? Edwards? Someone said it while they were going through the trade deadline. Why would the tune so quickly change?

I know people are worried about what the flames will do. After hearing King and Feaster speak at the STH meeting I am a little more calm. They know it is a rebuild they are calling it a rebuild. Their plan is to get young players in the lineup and put a competitive team on the ice. By competitive they mean a team that is going to work extremely hard and entertain the fans. They do not want a "tank now for glory later" stance that was embraced up north. They want to avoid the losing culture that has grown over the years in Edmonton. They have dumped some vets as will dump more this summer. I don't expect the flames to compete for a playoff spot next year but I dont expect them to be total doormats either. They might lose some games but their compete level will be better than years past

Feaster originally said that Edwards had informed him that the goal was to make the playoffs next year. In an interview on the Fan 960 immediately after, Feaster clarified that it was more about not using the rebuilding phase as an excuse to lose and that it wasn't all about making the playoffs. I summarized as much in a post (see link).

Thats fine but i still have a problem with it. For one as much as posters and our management team like to think that Edmonton went into every year to "tank", that was not the case. They have believed for the last couple of years that they would take the next step. There management team failed them with no moves for veterans.
The other problem i have with KK and Feasters comments is that it seems they will do everything in their power not to be like Edmonton ( ie bunch of #1 picks) and would consider drafting in the 7-12 range an accomplishment just to show the world that they were not as bad as Edmonton. At the end of the day they will have no ellite players going forward. I am sick of our management team using the team up North as the bar to beat. Granted they are not dumb because they know they can sell fans on "just be better than Edmonton", or " do it differently from Edmonton".
I would really like not to hear the words "up North" come from managements mouth for the next couple of years.

A lot of posters are tired of hearing Feaster and co. talk, and are likely not going to believe what is said either way.
Actions are how I will judge this management group going forward, and I'll believe they won't shortcut the rebuild to try and make the playoffs next season when I see it.

Petan with tremendous skating and playmaking. Thought you should know he's a real possibility.

So do you think the flames would take Petan with their 28th pick? I would hope if they like him that much they trade down to the 2nd round to get him.
He has tallent, but another small player (5'9"). Would not say no to him being drafted by the flames but they better be able to pick up some bigger guys with skill also. Our prospect pool is not only small, its looking small in stature also.
