Considering that there are around 90,000 people total - including regular forces and reservists, the number isn't anywhere near the tens of thousands. Honestly, I don't know what the numbers are but it more often than not isn't an environment which is conducive to forward/progressive thinking people often times. They can raise a flag but that won't change much of anything when it comes to people's viewpoints.

I have a few gay friends who are retired from active service, and I can tell you that this means a lot to them, and will mean a lot to gay members still serving. It shows that there is a shift in thinking, regardless of how slowly it will trickle down.

I know a couple of people who came out post military career as well and I know of exactly one person who was openly gay while serving and I admire the heck of him as a result, because as much as the chain of command can tell people to be more accepting, it is up to the ranks to do as such and that will take time.

Agreed, but this is a great start.
