If the award truly went to the best all around Defensemen, Zdeno Chara would be winning it. He puts up respectable offensive numbers while completely dominating the defensive side of the game.

The team that picked 3rd overall is totally better than the team that dropped 196 million on two guys over the summer.
I love Suter. I hope Subban wins it to shut up everyone who talks s*** about him. Dude is super talented, been the #1 on his team since he was 20 years old getting airlifted into the post-season and being asked to shut down OV and Crosby. Which he did.
PK for Olympics.

Just like I predicted when Suter left Nashville and was called crazy. He's better than Weber.

Subban had the better statistics as a defenceman, but I would not agree that he had the better year. Particularly, I don't think the difference in stats is great enough to overcome the fact that Suter was the far superior defenceman on defence.

no award show this year due to lockout. Instead it will be a two part show during the Cup finals
Quote:
Part one of the show will take place at 5 p.m. ET the day before Game 2. It will take place on NHL Network's set at the Stanley Cup Final and feature network personalities giving out awards. NHL Net will televise the ceremony in both the United States and Canada. The awards handed out will be the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, Frank J. Selke Trophy, Jack Adams Award, King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award presented by Bridgestone, NHL Foundation Player Award and the NHL General Manager of the Year Award.
On the night of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, NBC Sports Network and CBC will join forces to co-produce a show at 7 p.m. ET (an hour before the game) to hand out the major awards. Both NBC and CBC television personalities will announce the winners. The awards given out will be the Calder Memorial Trophy, Hart Memorial Trophy, James Norris Memorial Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award and Vezina Trophy.

Meh, if I'm starting a team from scratch, I take Weber over Suter...I'd be ecstatic with either... It appears Weber is a great leader, plus his offense and heavy shot, as well as big hits are great game-breaker qualities that give him be edge, IMO... Suter is amazing, though

I'm a Suter guy myself but just because I view Suter as the better overall defenseman doesn't mean Webber is chopped liver.
Anyway back on topic after watching the Adventures of Chris Letang show this spring I feel it would be a travesty if he wins this award. He's a rover not a defenseman as there isn't any 'defense' in his game.

The NHL should just let the awards show die regardless of the lock out or not.

Not even best d-man on his own team (Markov).
Nothing against Subban - I like how he has improved his game (unlike Dion who just plateaued), but he is not the best d-man in the NHL.

Letang is just so much fun to watch, though!!
I've never liked that the league gives out awards for positions as it helps prevent potential evolution of the game. It becomes even worse when different sets of rules apply to different positions...anyway, likely the wrong thread for this tangent... I agree with your take on Letang's style of play. Usually, I prefer defensive D, but I find Letang a lot of fun to watch. I also consider him to be a very valuable player.

Is that anything like what I said?
He had a great year, probably the best year of the defencemen ... thus he won.
