I'm a big believer in drafting best player available, in most (but not all cases).
With the Flames current prospect system, you really cant say, "We've got a logjam of forwards, or we've got a logjam of defencemen" Maybe you can make the case that drafting a goalie isn't really necessary this season... but pretty much any other position could benefit from added depth. There is no place where the depth is so big you worry about getting your prospects enough playing time.
As such, if he's there for the Flames pick in the 3rd round, and is the best player available, take him. He's gonna need some help in development, but the upside is there, and you can say that with a lot of third round guys.

We've started our 'Scouts Series' at Future Considerations, where we have select scouts talk about who impressed and disappointed them throughout their viewings this season. It gives a good idea on which way certain players trended throughout the year.
The first here is Dan Shrader (upper-midwest):

^ Good write up. I agree about your thoughts on where someone with that potential should be drafted.
I'd rather get a shutdown Dman at that point, or a scoring forward who needs to work on his defensive game.

Commandant, you've got far and beyond what I thought you'd do with these prospect profiles. I though you might do 35, 40 max. Never thought you'd hit 65 profiles! Keep up the good work. Read them every day.
BTW, how many more do you have left? haha

No kidding.
Flames pick at 67th overall, it's fun looking at these recent profiles and wondering how many of these guys might be on the Flames list, and if one of them might end up being picked up with our 3rd rounder in less than two weeks.

The profile on Sorenson sold me. Hope the Flames grab him with their third if he is there.
Crazy that this kind of player is available in the third round. The depth of this draft is nuts.

Last year I went to 70 (and then a 2 sentence each post for 71-80) This year my goal was 80... but I don't think I'll get there.... Likely 75 and the two sentence each mega post for 76-90.
But we'll see how much time I get to write.
Here's the latest though.
John Hayden another US NTDP forward checks in at 66

Well done and fairly accurate article on the Flames heading into draft day. With the picks we currently have their mock draft has us taking #6-Monahan, #22-Kerby Rychel, and #28-Josh Morrissey. I'd be pretty happy with that, but wish that Rychel was a right winger.
