So, the interview with TSN talking about his firing is twice as long as the actual conversation he had with MacTavish when he was fired.

I hear that in a couple days there will be another announcement that Krueger will be named the General Manager in 3-5 Years.

Krueger was all-world class in this interview, he always came across as a man of genuine integrity.
It sounded like Ralph was in Ontario at the time he was relieved of his duties with the Oilers, I guess that was why Skype was the avenue used for his release.

Four coaches in five years. Wow, at least we give our guys 2-3 years.

Cept Playfair of course. Krueger got Playfaired.

Wonder what this does for the superstar kids. It's gotta be getting into their head that they aren't accountable for anything by now.

This team will not be the new Pens, or Boston, or Kings. They are going to be the new Isles. Well the Isles of the 20 years previous of this one.

Hmmm .... perhaps I misunderstood his comments in his interview, he said his immediate plans were "to enjoy the beautiful Ontario lake country" ... so I assumed he was there now ..... I will defer to your information ...
Regardless, he wasn't in Edmonton to do a face to face ....

So how did they go from looking at an associate head coach that had NHL experience (Maurice was one guy they looked at which made sense) to a guy like Eakins who has no NHL coaching experience? MacTavish said a few weeks ago at the draft combine that he had some internal issues to take care of when TSN asked about a new coaching hire which is likely this firing which takes me back to how this was something MacTavish had on the go for weeks.

Wonder if the nicks are agitated, as I thought I heard he had met with them twice and they liked him.

Seems like Matt is really putting his mitt prints all over this team.

Though Lowe wasn't front and centre, from the way MacTavish handled this with a last minute presser, sounds as if Lowe was the one giving him advice based on Lowe's prior antics/mistakes.

Mactavish figured out some point in the past week that he really didn't want Kruger, so time to turf him, even though he has lead him down the garden path the past month and a half.

He asks the "2nd most succcesful person in hockey right how", how to go about it a couple days ago:

CM:"Ok Kevin, I've decided to ditch Ralph, as that dump truck of money we're giving Eakins for 5 years seems to have done the trick...what do I do now?"

KL:"Craig, Gary crapped on me for getting free PR over the past years by doing announcements during the SCF, so you have to do it all before it starts, which may be Wed. Where's Ralph now?"

CM:"Somewhere in Europe...remember that important scouting trip we sent him on?"

KL:"S**t, yeah. Ok, well you have to do it face to face. Guys like Heatley really respected us when we came out to visit them. Can you get him back here?

CM:"Will be tight. We need to get Eakins signed before he changes his mind and announced I guess before the SCF"

KL:"Ok, lets get our main internet guy ( ) on the case. Maybe we can video conference him.

CM:"My kids use Facetime on the Iphone, maybe we can do it that way...or Skype?

KL:"Sounds good..get that setup. What about your presser...you better get that hastily arranged too?

CM:"Guess so, how's the best to handle that?"

KL:"After you tell Ralph, we'll get the PR guys to do alert some of the press a couple hours before you're going to do it...do it Saturday, maybe many of those press guys will be out on holiday or golfing and not make it, so we can avoid some of the tough questions we got last time and I won't have to do another stupid half assed apology the next day on the website"

CM:"Will you be there at the presser?"

KL:"Nope,...umm...busy...this is all on you..make it short, sweet, vauge. Give Ralph credit and don't throw this one under the bus...will make me look foolish for hiring him this time last year".

Didn't that clown Schultz sign in Edmonton because of Ralph ?

Enjoy the circus buddy. Could have been in the playoffs with a much better team in California.

Interesting thought. Imagine if he has to play actual defense and the oilers add a couple of legit nhlers in the back end. How happy will princess be if his all bit guaranteed bonuses dissapear.

I am sure he will show a lot of loyalty and just work hard to earn his opportunities.

In the grand scheme of things a airline ticket to Ontario is cheap. But the bottom line is that instead of dickin around at the end of the season they should have let him go then.

But holding onto a guy while pretty much openly interviewing candidates is pretty classless.

Its pretty much a given that Kevin Lowe is above the law in Edmonton becausee of his name not his competance. Mac-T is probably above the law because Katz probably has an un-healty exotic fixation with former Oilers its seems.

The players are above accountability, you could see where they gave up last year. There's a losing culture and low expectations of the team from management.

Instead of hiring former players over and over again, and bringing back guys that were former employees, a good owner would have gutted that front office from Lowe down for dismal failure since 2006, and bought in a
Paul Maurice type who actually has won at the NHL level and knows how to deal with young NHL players.

Eakin's has no real experience in coaching NHL players at a head coaching level, and this is quite different from coaching young AHL players.

Don't think Paul Maurice is the answer to anything in Edmonton. They need to ####can the KLown and bring in someone who knows more about creating a winning organization than just playing for one. It starts at the top and not behind the bench.

MacTavish like the rest of the organization just seems to have no long term plan other than winning the draft lottery. Something they perceive is brilliant enters their mind and they act on it immediately. In the fall MacT will probably have Hemsky and Horcoff still on the roster and say that he didn't expect that he wouldn't get offers of #1 dmen or power forwards offered up in exchange.

Perhaps you should read interviews regarding how this played out. It was never intended when interviews were happening that Krueger was being replaced. Those interviews were for an associate coach in which Kreuger had agreed was required anyway. Throughout the process mactavish realized philosophical differences and obviously found someone who better fit his plans on how the team he is in charge of should go.
And Krueger was in Europe at time of firing, please name anyone who would fly there to deliver the news or expect him to fly back to canada to get the news? Not gonna happen.
