Default Campbell and Wales Trophies

Both conference winners went with team photos and no touching the trophies this year. I don't ever recall that in the past, but I imagine it has happened before.

We all remember Iginla skated off with the Campbell Bowl while Andreychuk just posed and didn't touch...

I recall captain posing with Daley (or whoever) and not touching is most common, but does anyone have a list of unique things that have happened when these trophies are presented? Surely some others have touched the trophy and gone on to lose...have any touched and gone on to win?

IIRC Boston started the team photo with the trophy during thei last cup run.. I could be mistaken. But it is a cool idea.

I like this fashion. It would be neat if the cup winner this year perhaps gather around behind the commish and captain when they're posing for the photos.

I get not partying when you win the conference but not touching it is kinda foolish to me. Wish we'd won it after Iggy picked it up and ended the dumb supersticion.

Team picture is a cool idea.

For once, I'd like to see a player lift it up like the cup.

The closest I can remember was Linden picking it up in 1994 and the damn lid falling off.

They're stupid looking trophies. They're stupid and they should feel stupid.

The Flames picked it up and toured it around the ice in May 1986 and 1989.

Boo!

Both the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl and the Prince of Wales Trophy are among the most stunning and iconic trophies in all of sports. It's part of what the NHL clearly has the edge on virtually every other sport on the planet: They mess a lot of stuff up, but what the League does well is trophies.

I wish the conferences were named Campbell and Wales again. I also wish we were back in the Smythe.

I thought the Bruins started the team photo tradition this year?

New Jersey picked up the Prince of Wales trophy and did a team pose after defeating the Senators in the 2003 Eastern Conference.

I remember that. In '89 they just kind of did a quick lap but in '86 they paraded it around like it was the Stanley Cup if I remember correctly.

Didn't Sid touch it the year they won? Maybe the captain of the Canes did it the year they won?

I know someone has done it recently and won the cup.

It's a silly superstition in my opinion. And actually Iggy was known to try and break superstitions on the Flames, Conroy has mentioned this several times.

On the other hand, if it puts that tiny smidgen of doubt in any of your teammates, and hockey players are often very superstitious, maybe it's just better not to touch it.

Fired up the VCR and watched that part of the "C of Red" chronicling the '86 season, and didn't show the parading around, but almost sure they did.

I have a newspaper from that day, with picture of Baxter hugging the trophy while on the ice.

The Prince of Wales Trophy was, in fact, the NHL championship trophy before the Stanley Cup was. It was relegated when the WCHL folded, leaving the NHL as the lone league competing for the Stanley Cup.
