Sergei Gonchar is close to moving to Matallurg Magnitogorsk of the #KHL to join Mike Keenan. #Sens

I think the Sens will get Striet (sp) this off season. I'd love for them to get Cammy too...

I am surprised nobody wanted to pay us to negotiate with Babchuk and Cervenka.

I thought the NHL implemented the "wooing" period to get rid of trades like this? Guess it did not work.

This probably has more to do with the reports that he is close to signing a KHL deal. Dallas obviously targeted Gonchar for July 5th, but afraid he would take the KHL deal before they could negotiate.

What's the condition? That he's still alive in October?

Why would a team trade for someone who is probably going to play in Russia? What is the point of throwing away a draft pick?

Not only that but why would you trade for him when your team is not close to contending. Anybody see the Stars contending for the SC because they added Gonchar?

No, but I see them giving him a large one year deal, in the range of 5M, paying him for half a season, then flipping him at the deadline to a contender. Exactly what they did with Jagr, and exactly what I was hoping the Flames would do with Gonchar specifically.

If Gonchar has a bizarre 6m per year amount contract waiting for him in the KHL, the conditional 6th must be only under the "condition" Gonchar signs with Dallas or else it is throwing a pick away.

Yeah, completely forgot about that. When does this "wooing" period start again, and how does it work exactly?

Not sure when it starts, but i thought i read 5 days before UFA day. Any team can wine and dine any player it wants for the 5 days leading up to when the market opens.

Hey don't be jealous because their GM gave them a conditional 6th to sign a top 4 defenceman who stands to contribute more than a 6th rounder would. It's not like he went and moved it for an unproven backup goalie from Sweden or something

Apparently Gonchar wants a multi-year contract and if Dallas is able to work out a deal with Gonchar it might not be a bad signing. Gonchar is one of the all-time greats IMO. I thought he would be done at this age, but his ability to still contribute speaks to his abilities.
dissentowner, I think the Stars are looking to make the playoffs.

Didn't know trades could be made until playoffs over.
