Hence the question on what the real goal of this sale is

To make back as much as they can from their equipment/ old stock, I read that the TO LEAFS spent $450,000 just on sticks last season.

They could wristband all the folks waiting in line at let's say 5pm when the store closes and folks from the dome go home.
Then at 6:30 or whenever they come around again, they can re-wristband those same folks, and the rest in line at that time. If you don't have one of the overnight bands, you get sent to the back of the line, if you aren't there to get your 2nd band in the morning, you get sent to the back of the line.

the last 2 years they gave the wrist bands around 3am-ish when there was only 15-20 ppl in line and it seemed to work fine.

Well if that's the goal there are much better ways to achieve it, including selling off the entirety to retailers like Meigray and the pro stock sites.

To maximize the cash, they should photograph and put it up for auction online, then silent auction in person, then do the nerd lineup hoarding thing last.

I don't know if that's true, or if this would be HRR, but these equipment sales aren't done by every team so I can't imagine there's a standard that teams must meet if they decide to do one.
I think your plan would work pretty well, particularly for getting the most possible for the most in demand items.

It seems as if the Flamesdont even use Meigray for their jerseys anymore so I am not sure why they would use them for something like that. I am pretty sure the pro stock sites don't buy sticks for 150 bucks a pop, hell they can barely get 125 bucks a stick these days.

That doesn't really matter, they'd take all of everything (it wouldn't have to be Meigray, it could simply be the highest bidder), there would be no costs associated with having to staff a sale and you'd do away with any of the other additional headaches. If the goal is maximum profit this is an odd way to do it.

If the only goal is maximizing profit then yes it is but I am sure there are other reasons for making the stuff available to the fans.

Seems to me the best way to manage this process is give those in line up a numbered wrist band, and then to bring out fresh stock occasionally.
The other alternative is to sleep in, and go to pro-hockey life, hockey experts, tuxedo etc.

Here's an idea - instead of having the entire sale in a confined area in the concourse, perhaps they could have the sticks in one area of the Dome, helmets a 100 yds away, gloves in another area, etc. Pretty tough to hoard equipment then.

Better yet, they could hide the equipment throughout the entire dome. Then it would be like a giant easter egg hunt. Sweet!

From the security guards point of view there's really no way for it to be proven to her that someone budged. It's your word against the budgers and unless the security guard has been watching the line they have no way to make that call.
Also, the security guard really has nothing to do with the sale. They're hired to guard the equipment over night and to hand out wristbands at some point. If you have an issue with the way the event is run you have to take it higher up than that. It doesn't solve the problem for this year, but maybe next year.

In my opinion, the issue with the numbered wrist band the night before is what happens if someone gets a wrist band, goes home to sleep for the night, and then comes back early the next day and jumps back in line? Nobody's going to like that either.
Also not a fan of the idea of them bringing out new stock periodically. That sucks for the hardcore collector who does stand at the front of the line all night, who then maybe doesn't get what he was after even if he waits all day for new stuff to be brought out because there's always the chance someone who was at the back of the line now sees it first.

Who says the guy that doesnt have the opportunity to take the day off isn`t a hardore collector. Does he not deserve what he wants?? There is no real way to fix it but there are ways to improve it.

Anyone who considers themselves "Hardcore" won't let something like a job get in their way.
I didn't go this year but I've always been at the front the years before and never noticed budging, and trust me, being there 24 hours before with a group of people, you would know who was there too.
