I think Cherry summed it up correctly last night Carter whacked Keiths ungloved hand and when you do that your looking for trouble. Keith lost his temper and smacked Carter back in the face. Carter found the trouble.
Now Carter has 20 stitches and 3 chipped teeth as a reminder not to slash a players ungloved hand and Keith misses a game with LA improving their chance to even up the series. A reminder to Keith you can't smack guys in the face with your stick even though Carter was trying to break a finger etc.

Just like in real life if a guy comes at you and swings at your face and misses. You pull out a gun and shoot him. That guy that swung was looking for trouble. The guy found the trouble.
Now one man is dead and let that be a reminder not to take a wing at a person. The other man is in prison and let that be a reminder that you can't just shoot people even if they are trying to take a swipe at you.
This neanderthal thinking is what gives hockey a bad name and why people like my wife (yes it's a battle) don't even want our kids to play hockey.

That's a pretty big stretch hockey to guns and prison.

Hockey isn't the street, and nobody was killed. When you slash someone in the bare hand you are obviously looking for trouble. That doesn't mean you deserve to be cracked across the face.
Can you point out the neanderthal thinking in that?

Carter didn't even touch Keith. He tapped his glove on the ice with his stick and people like Cherry and Stay Golden feel Carter getting his face busted up was justified because he may or may hot have had intent to slash Keith. It's absolutely neanderthal thinking. You can't just hit people in the face with hockey sticks because you think they were trying to hurt you. It's never okay or justified to hit a person in the face with a stick regardless of the circumstances.

He didn't touch him? Sure looked like he slashed him in the hand to me.
Either way, where was the attempt to justify it? Carter was looking for trouble, he found it. That doesn't mean Keith's reaction was justified. Re-read the last line of the original post you responded to.

There was a lot of stuff happening between Carter and Keith prior to the bare hand/glove incident that led to Keith losing his cool.
Regardless of whether or not Carter physically contacted Keith, it was Carter's intent to continue angering and pestering Keith after their battle in front of the net.
Carter should have just continued skating up the ice, there was no need for him to try to knock Keith's glove away while he tries to pick it up. Carter's just trying to agitate Keith. Carter is trying to get a reaction out of Keith, maybe even draw a penalty. Turns out he succeeded.
Hitting someone in the face with your stick is certainly "neanderthal thinking". is being a pest and trying to draw a reaction out of your opponent better?

It actually makes complete sense.
If I hit you, you have a choice to make. Either hit me back or report me to the police. Both are a result of me hitting you.

you stretching Carter hitting Keith with his stick and Keith responding with hitting him with his stick...to a guy trying to hit someone in the face and the other guy pulling a gun and killing him.
Ok, why not go all the way have the other guy blow up Earth with a Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator

It's pretty simple you mess with the bull you get the horns.
That's the way some us were raised. That is probably the way most Pro Hockey players and Football Players have been raised or coached at some point.

Keith by slashing Carter in the face intentionally did it in that split moment as a reminder don't eff with me Carter he was saying.
His temper got the best of him and i think he felt sorry afterwards once he became sane again.
But there is no doubt in my mind Keith snapped for that moment and only wanted to get more than even with Carter.
You may think it is Neanderthal but this is contact sports with emotion.
Cause and effect.
Bro this isn't checkers it's chess.
I don't see how a one handed slash to the face, working against gravity, is significantly more dangerous/dirty than a two handed slash, in a downward motion, on someone's bare hand.
Why weren't both guys suspended for attempts to injure?
