Default Duncan Keith suspended 1 game for his high stick on Jeff Carter

As per TSN.

This is a huge loss for the Hawks

Right call.

Have no idea how the referee failed to call that a major penalty in game.

Suspension for high sticking (stupid decision he obviously regretted right away or not)... sounds like a can of worms to me.

1 game is the right call. Good on Shanahan for making it as it's always tough to make a player of Duncan Kieth's stature this far into the playoffs.

One game now is worth like 4-5 games in the regular season.

I'm glad he got suspended, that was a dumb and unsafe play

I was thinking he would get one game. If you look at the reply, he definitely took a swing, and connected.

Marty Mcsorely didn't intend to hit Brashear in the head either, he was aiming for the shoulder. I think you definitely need to punish stupid. It doesn't matter he didn't mean to or felt bad after.

I'm not arguing if it was a stupid play or not, it clearly was. Nor am I arguing if stupid should be punished or not as clearly it should be. I just think this is one of those "can of worms" events.

Seems appropriate. Keith isn't known as a dirty player and he felt bad immediately after, but then again so did McSorely.

Ask Canucks fans if they think he isn't a dirty player.

Their views are skewed on what makes a dirty player when they support trash like Lapierre and Burrows.

Your kidding right? Getting suspended for swinging a stick at another player is not new or unprecedented. It was definitely a swing, the only mitigating factor is that it was a one hander instead of a two hander. Had it been a two hander he would be out for the playoffs.

The suspension is appropriate, though I'd have given Carter a game too for trying to slash Keith's ungloved hand. There's no place for either of those plays in the game.

Don't see a can of worms either. The only question in my mind is if one game is enough, but because

- he apologized and admitted that it was intentional
- it was one-handed
- it's the playoffs

I think one game is okay. Two would have been better.

The point I was trying to make that you butchered so well was that weather or not this was justified, this has the potential to open the door supplemental discipline for other high sticking calls. Not that it will, just that cases of previous suspensions are often used as grounds for future suspensions. Combine that with the fact that the league is trying to get "dirty plays" out of the game, well the line between intentional and accidental becomes increasingly blurry since a select few peoples opinion is what determines these decisions.

A perfect example of that point is Cooke cutting Karlsson's tendon. Because the NHL (and thus some fans) are in full crackdown mode on "dirty plays", some people (media, fans etc) wanted Cooke held responsible because of that blurry line. Thankfully common sense prevailed but that's not always the case.

Anyways before my comment gets blown way out of proportions I thought I should clarify a bit. Do with it what you will. Justified suspension in this case, but I worry about the effects it may have going forward. Another drop in the proverbial bucket if you will.

I'm sorry Kaine, but you're reading way too much into this.

Nearly all high sticks are accidental, and obviously so.

This one was the result of deliberate intent to slash Carter. In fact, it warranted a major penalty and a game misconduct.

There is no blurry line here.

See my last post, or don't, I really don't care enough to argue about it.
