Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly, Stastny, Parenteau make for a pretty solid core group of top nine forwards and three of them are under 25. Yeah Mackinnon could replace Stastny next year but Duchene, O Reilly are still a really good 1-2 punch.
Who do they have on D? Johnson and...
|
I think they pick MacKinnon and trade Stastny for more immediate defensive help - MacKinnon is too good to pass up.

There is no chance that the Avs don't take Jones.

We need more posters talking with 100% certainty and openly chastising anyone that tries to introduce any shred of potential variance into the draft order conversation.
Seriously, for every 2 reasons why Jones to the Avs makes sense there is likely 1 reason why some other scenario makes sense.

I have to respectfully disagree with this.
Stastny is in the last year of his contract with a cap hit of 6M, and with a shrinking cap, point production that has decreased from 79, to 57 to 53, to 41 prorated over an 82 game season (assuming he would still have missed the proportionate amount of games due to injury ina full season).
I don't see the Av's getting too much value for him unless someone wants to buy extremely high on his WHC performance. Even then that would only net them a 4/5 D man at best
IMO Stastny+Jones>>> Mackinnon+ 4/5 D man.
But Colorado would have some fun forwards to watch if they take Mackinnon... but how is that working out in Edmonton?

About the same "chance" Pittsburgh wasn't picking Crosby in 2005.

I wouldn't be surprised too much to see them take Mack, then trade Stastny and ROR (In Feb 2014) for D help/wingers.

There's no Crosby in this draft. Avs could even trade down a couple of spots if they want a forward.

Not true at all. Wouldn't surprise me much at all if the Avs pick MacKinnon.

Hometown kid, best D-man in the draft by a large margin (arguably the best player, regardless of position) with Colorado desperately needing help on D, and he's a very marketable guy for a team with the 5th worst attendance last year. He's going to be an Av, no question.

It's likely that he'll go first, but you're wrong in saying that there's no chance he won't.

You're already wrong... Jones is most likely to be taken first... It won't make your ridiculous statement any less wrong if Jones does in fact go 1st overall.

So I'm saying Jones will go 1st overall. So when the Avs pick him, I'm still wrong in your @$$-backwards way of thinking? Okay

Things have changed since Roy and Sakic are now in charge. With Roy saying his pick is up for bids, Colorado could go any way.
Quote:
Roy openly stated that he has brought up the concept of the Avalanche trading the No. 1 overall selection in June's NHL Draft.
|
This draft could be fun and hard to predict.

No, you're wrong because you're basically implying Jones is a slam dunk 1st overall pick like Crosby was when in fact, he's not. Jones may very well go first overall, but it is in no way a certainty.
