Flames sign Ramo (Can't be official until July 5)

Quote:
In other news the Calgary Flames have come to terms on a multi-year contract with goaltender Karri Ramo. The 26 year-old has NHL experience but spent the last four seasons playing with Omsk in the KHL. Ramo was drafted by Tampa Bay in the 6th round back in 2004. The contract cannot be made official until July 5th.

Story in link says it is a multi-year deal. Nothing on the dollars yet though.
Bertuzzied: Flames are treating the Kipper situation like he is not coming back. They'll give him more time but they're pretty sure he is done.

I thought Berra already agreed to terms as well. I could be mistaken though.

One year deal for Berra. And yes you are right.
NHL: Ramo, Berra, MacDonald.
AHL: Orito and one of the other three.

I think you are looking at:
NHL:
Ramo
MacDonald/Berra
AHL:
Ortio
Brossoit/Berra
Irving is done with Calgary.
This all assumes the Flames don't go out and get a MA Fleury, Bernier, etc. Which I think is not only possible but likely.

Signed goalies so far:
1. Kipper
2. MacDonald
3. Berra
4. Brossoit
5. Ortio
Ramo would make it six total, but Kipper may retire.

I would prefer to see us go with Ramo and Berra off the bat.
MacDonald should easily pass through waivers and can be called up in case neither works out. Berra and Ramo stand a chance to establish themselves as relatively young assets of value and I would hate to see a rebuilding team dedicate too many games to a guaranteed deadend asset like MacDonald even if it costs us a few games in the short term. We have to think big picture.

Irving is gone. At the STH event they said they would not qualify him. The said Ortio and Brossoit in the minors the Berra, Ramo and MacDonald to fight for the NHL gig. Something will have to give as the odd man out will have to go somewhere.

I'm not even going to bother trying to plan out who goes where. Other than Macdonald each goalie is unknown so who knows what will happen. More than likely there will be at least 1 that isn't NHL calibre out of Berra and Ramo (hopefully there is only 1 and not both).

Multi-year? Hopefully no more than 2 years.
