Killing Joffery would allow Tywin to take complete control of South as Cersai's youngest Son would become King and is too young to rule. Tyrion becomes Lord of Winterfell and we are all set up for next season for Denarys to invade from the South and the White Walkers / Wildlings to come from the North. With Stanis and Mellisandre pulling strings.

From the TV thread.
You almost want to put them out of their misery and let them know that all that cool stuff the story is building towards is nowhere near.

I have a feeling some people have spoiled the story for themselves and are pretending to predict what happens next. I don't buy it. Not sure why but I just don't buy it.

You don't buy it because as a book reader you are not a "sweet summer child" but are instead jaded and pessimistic like the rest of us!

That's one of the most interesting things about this series. Yes, it can be really soul crushing to see so many favourite characters killed. But this is one of the few series where you really know that no one is safe.
I know when watching a tv show that, unless it is a 2-parter, the drama will resolve with around 10 minutes left. I've found myself glancing at a clock when things happen and saying, "No, this isn't the killer/thief/whatever, there is too much time left". That sort of reference doesn't exist here. Any character may be killed off. It is kind of refreshing to feel that sort of honest worry for a character.
Mind you, with the bloat the story has become, he really does need to realize we got the point and he can dispense with many of characters he only seems to develop to to later kill off.
I'll be some pissed if there is NEVER any resolution and he says, "Life is rarely wrapped up in a nice little package". Thing is, I could see him doing exactly that.

That's a good shout actually - do you think they'll mess around as to his identity or do you think they'll just show him as Benjen?

I am 100% sure on that, a few people whose 'guesses' are too close (without being exact)

Yea I totally agree, I have read a few posts in there and it is way too close to the original. But if only we had some evidence...
This is what we must do, send someone in to breed with these posters and over time earn their trust. Then once we have it, stab them in the belly and slit their throats!!! wait.. wait.. sorry I don't know what got into me there.
Or do I?

I highly doubt Coldhands is Benjen.
in ADWD it is said that Coldhands died long ago - Benjen's disappearance may seem like a long time, but compared to how long Bloodraven's been sitting there, it's barely a drop in the bucket.

All signs are pointing to Bloodraven being the 3 Eyed Crow.

They do, and he's clearly been sitting in that weirwood throne for some time.

I know. I've seen the occasional "non-book reader" viewing this thread after the Red Wedding. Might have just clicked the wrong thread and turned back right away but I think a couple may have spoiled themselves.

Perhaps, but the odd person is probably going to guess or suspect something close to what has happened in the books.
However I bet none of them would believe that as of book 5 Dany is still in Essos (and has little to no control of the dragons). They'd go nuts.

That's where the TV show is in a little trouble, actually. Other than the Purple Wedding and Tywin's end, the next two seasons of the show are going to be slow as pieces reposition. I think that, more than the Red Wedding, will drive a loss of viewers. They would likely return in season six when, presumably, the books and show begin their drive to the finish line.

Slow, but still some epic moments to be had:
The Purple Wedding
The Red Viper vs the Mountain
Tywin's death
Littlefinger's reveal and Lysa's death
The battle for the Wall
Myrcella's disfigurement and Arys' death
Dorne's plan
Euron
Quentyn's death
Bloodraven
Jon's fate
Janos' fate

Selmy killing the pit fighter, especially considering we didn't see him take on the Titan's #######, should also be pretty awesome. There's still all of Arya's stuff.
And some of my favourite moments in the series, "The North Remembers" with the Manderlys and "And his name is STARK" with the Mormonts.
As long as the producers can get the watchers interested in the Martells, Greyjoys and Aegon they have a ton of story to tell, especially considering I think they can spend a lot of time fleshing out the North houses like the Manderlys, Umbers and Glovers still. I loved Doran's "Fire and Blood" speech but I don't care much for all the Greyjoy stuff so it wont be super easy but season 5 doesn't have to be just Daenerys twiddling her thumbs in Mereen if they do it right.

And back to the last episode, as great as it was, was anyone else disappointed with Osha's discussion with Bran when they decided to head towards the Umbers?
It was something along the lines of:
Bran: Are you sure you can find Last Hearth?
Osha: You Southerners build giant castles that don't move, it wont be hard.
They couldn't do a zoom in of Jojen smirking to Meera? They are from a moving castle that's close to impossible to find! Feel like it was a hugely wasted opportunity to give a nod to the book-readers that they like to do.

I don't follow the show, or books, but didn't you just pretty much spoil like the next decade of episodes or so?

I wonder if they'll skip that part entirely and just have him hurt through some other means in order to save time, so escaping the Red Wedding massacre with some injuries would be a convenient way to write that in. Still, I think it'll be early next season before he finally dies, unless they really rush the whole scene. They need something for Arya to do next season without leaping into book 4, so having her and the hound slowly move through villages until the end, the hound dies, then she leaves for the boat. It would be like the Bran storyline in season 3 where nothing much happens until the last minute.
I want to see how definitive they make the hounds death, as there's still the Gravedigger theory to work with.
|
I'm a big fan of the Gravedigger theory. I 100% think that's the Hound and that he'll be back in the story at some point. Or maybe he's one of the few characters that gets a peaceful retirement from the Game. There's no way the monks got Stranger to their island without some help from Sandor though.

It would still be polite, I think, to put spoilers around that perfect spoiler list.
That is a packed list of spoilers.
