I'm certain it wasn't that loud before or for some reason the majority of people in our office didn't notice it before. Now we can hear it in our office all day every day like a car alarm that keeps going off. It's becoming really annoying trying to work and hearing this thing go off.
We called 311 who suggested a noise complaint.
Checked in on the complaint and was told "sorry, The City of Calgary doesn't have to adhere to bylaws". We asked about having the volume turned down and were told "it's a safety issue, and they don't have to adhere to bylaws, and The City is exempt as well". I then said that yes, I understand, but given I'm many floors up in an office building perhaps the people on the street could still hear it if it was turned down a little. I was then given a bunch of unrelated comparisons like fire trucks going to a fire and emergency road construction to repair a water break at 2:00am. Both of which I found rude and not applicable to what I'm talking about. One is an annoying alarm that could be adjusted to not bother people - the other is a one-time necessity to solve an immediate problem.
311 suggested I call the Downtown Association. I tried that and was helped by some very nice people who suggested that they would try to help out but it very well could just die at the next person they send the request to.
Any other thoughts?

Call your building management. They might have some pull, as it is impacting your facilities.

Isnt the Calgary courts building a provincial building not a City of Calgary building? Kind of draconian they dont have to follow their own bylaws.

Started with that route. They've got a few internal things going on that would put this at the bottom of their priorities right now.

Right.... Him.
Sorry, was reading SSP thread, thought of this thread, went to it, and saw your name above in a few posts and just got mixed up.
Apparently I was wrong then - Bigtime isn't our only hope. Bunk is!
Thanks!

That is a campus style suburban office development. I would assume that there would be some restaurants in the base to serve the workforce but I'm not 100% on that.
I'm really curious as to what is being planned with all that land on the ATCO site south of it.

I met Nenshi for the third time this last weekend in Vancouver. The guy is a rock star. People gravitate to him. He has style and folks like that.

I believe all of the mayor's staff get to take turns going around with him, not sure how they determine the order.

Yes, it is a provincially owned parkade. It is managed by Vinci Parking, so they would be a good one to contact about the issue:

Yes, it looks as though it's scheduled for a pavement rehabilitation this year:

It is owned by the City. The site was recently cleared, but there is still planning going on to determine what exactly will go on site. It's likely it'll be primarily commercial, but don't know the mix of retail or other uses that might be there.
There should be updates in the near future on the City's website - search Office of Land Servicing and Housing.

Yeah, he doesn't have a particular handler - everyone in the staff just takes turns staffing him at different events depending on our own availability (and perhaps interest in the event itself - I usually go to anything to do with sports!)

why does the city appear to only re-paint bike lanes at the end of the summer and not in the spring?
my example is 8 avenue ne, going up the hill east of deerfoot. the lines are always so faded away, motorists tend to ignore them. then, near the end of the summer, the city comes around and paints them just in time for bad weather to wear them out by springtime, the cycle continues.
oh, i've already heard the "we don't have enough paint trucks" excuse before, surely that still can't be the reason, can it?
