I can't think of another sport that combines some of the best players across nations into a team. All the games are being carried by Sportsnet World in HD.

Great time to watch the sport if you don't know much about it.

An interesting aspect of the whole combination thing is that even with it being the Northern Hemisphere (except France) All-Star team they still typically lose when they play the Wallabies, All Blacks or Springboks, the Southern Hemisphere is just that much stronger. I can't think of another sport where a comparable imbalance exists, perhaps hockey 20-30 years ago where Canada and Russia were dominant.

Yeah it kind of supports the concept of "character fringe players" and their importance to their teams.

It has produced some amazing rugby over the years.

If the teams are going to keep chucking out squads with only half their good players on them it's going to be mighty boring. 69-17 geez.

Yeah, these mid week games are more no where near as good as the tests.

I went to the game last night. Despite the score it was entertaining. In fact, I went to my first Rugby Union match between the Western Force and Brisbane Reds a couple of weeks ago and it was a real snoozer (11-11 draw). This one was much, much better. I didn't really realize the significance of the event until I got there. It's funny because a lot of people were saying that the result was pretty good for the Force. But even a rugby neophyte such as me could see the vast difference in the quality of these squads.

The crowd was really into the game even though the Force never were. Also, they played at Patterson Stadium which is the home stadium for the WC Eagles (AFL) and a much larger than the stadium than the Force normally play at. So, it made for a good atmosphere. Lots of Lions red colours in the crowd.

I am jealous.

I actually think the reds game will be much better, hopefully they will name a strong team, have the option of picking 8-9 wallabies I think in their squad.

Pub is full this morning with lots of kids of all ages running around. People are really into it, like a flames playoff game in a bar in Calgary. Pre-noon pints and lions, great start to the day and a pretty good game so far (from what I have seen).
