I got there at about 8:15am. Picked up Cervenka's CCM Crazy Lights for $175. Reebok 8K helmet (with Flames sticker and #77) including visor $90. Backlund's Warrior Franchise gloves $125 (never worn). I was hanging around for about 1.5 hrs and noticed that fresh stock was being brought in every 20 minutes or so. I think that is good since you may be able to pick up some decent stuff without having to spend the night sleeping outside the door.

Why buy stuff you dont even want?
Why not leave them for someone who actually stood in line to get them rather then upselling them on the internet to make a profit.

Its always so hectic in there. I get it. You basically grab everything you would potentially want and make the tough decision of what you keep later. I would agree that ridiculous markups arent fair. But then again, you waited in line for 5-7 hours so why not pad your pocket a bit.

There wasn't stock being brought out, stuff would just work its way back to the tables after the stupid hoarding collectors decided they didn't want it. Can't stand those idiots who grab 10 pairs of gloves, 20 sticks and scurry off to a corner to sort through them for half an hour.

I managed to snag the Karlsson chest protector and the goalie pants. Pretty happy, though I would have loved to have snagged a goalie stick, but didn't beat the guys that grabbed 5.

I heard someone say yesterday that the guys at the front of the line will grab a load of stuff for their buddies who are further back in line.

well there is a dilemma eh? First off this is not my stuff. I am in Oklahoma. This is my buddy's haul , he gets me stuff every year. I like gear so I post this pic up. He told me here is what I got, here is what I think I am going to sell b/c I dont like the way it fits or feels etc....
So to make a profit would mean to make more than you put in right? Well do you factor in him taking the time off work , his time spent waiting in line, and then his time to sell things? I would have to assume with these factored in then he doesnt really make a profit. I'm not going to argue whether it's wrong or it's right to do but there is one way people can assure themselves of getting what they want. Take off of work , go sit in line , and get in when it opens. Are you willing to do that .. or would you rather pay 50 extra bucks to avoid that? That's your call.

I was in line for over 17 hours only to have the people in front of me let their friends join them that weren't in line with them all night/day. Then when I finally get into the sale, the first group has hoarded a massive amount of stuff into the corner. Saddledome staff won't tell them not to do that because "they come every year and buy a lot of stuff". Yet the second I grabbed 3 pairs of gloves (with the intent to buy 2) I was immediately told by staff that hoarding isn't allowed and to make my decision on what I was getting. Then I come home and see people up selling the gear online, usually it's the people from the front of the line, selling the gear that I would have liked to buy or knew of friends later in line that would have wanted it.

Hey I understand ... I don't run the sale. I see both sides of the argument. However there was still a ton of stuff left I mean the fan-attic tweeted an hour before the sale was over that there was lots left over.

I somewhat agree but at the same time do people really need 20 pairs of gloves??? You cant tell me that he didnt have time to try them on there to see if they fit? Its greedy.

I have had 20 pairs of gloves at different times ... Did I need them? No, but did I want them? HELL YEAH I DID.. and I used almost all of them. I mean who needs this many gloves .. and this isnt even all of them? The answer is nobody but I like them so I don't see what the big deal is.
Also the guys at the front of the line are collectors as well as people who buy stuff to use. I mean some guys like to try to play every golf course in Calgary one summer or they want to try to go to every NHL arena and watch a game... well these guys want to own stuff from all the players who play for the Flames. I'm not sure why its a big deal ?

My take is if you want the stuff, show up early.
Don't complain when the guy who showed up at 5pm the day before gets everything he wants and then some. My advice would be to observe the people hording and jump on the stuff the second they decide to pass on it.

Want to avoid this in the future? Get there earlier and then you are in charge of your destiny. The whining that goes on over this stuff every year makes me laugh.
Boohoo the guy in front of me bought half of the store and isn't going to take it home and sleep with it because he doesn't cherish it as much as I would.
Most people are there for cheap gear, so don't come off as you are more entitled than anyone else because you actually really wanted it. If you really are that worried about getting exactly what you want you can purchase it full rate somewhere else. Don't bitch because you only got half of what you wanted at half price.

Don't get me wrong, anyone who waits in line for 24 hours and camps out overnight definitely earned it and should get the gear that they want, and I've certainly got nothing against collecting. Lord knows I (and everyone really) collect junk I don't need or use. It's just the practice of hoarding mass amounts of stuff and taking forever to decide is very frustrating to everyone else who is there for maybe a pair of gloves and a couple sticks.
To the person who said that none of the staff were getting on the major hoarders, that's not true I definitely heard them being spoken to, but I understand their side of it too. Even if these people buy half of what they're holding that's probably a couple grand in sales.
In the end I got the pair of gloves, helmet, and stick I wanted so I can't complain too much. Really nice gear too, probably better than a beer leaguer like me deserves!

I am not saying that I am more entitled then they are. I am just saying that people should buy what they want, not buy stuff with the intent to upsell it on the internet right after the sale.
It is just frustrating that I show up the day before a sale to camp out, when I show up I am 7th in line, the next morning I am bumped back to 15th when they actually hand out the wrist bands.

Posts like this make me howl in laughter. It must be so amusing for you to look down on people from your high horse. Let me know when you need more oxygen tanks. Your condesending attitude does little to further the debate.
He stood in line for many hours only to see people ahead of him letting their friends in line. That to me isn't right and I also think he has a valid point with hoarders and maybe should direct his commemts to the Flames who run this event. If it's okay for certain people to hoard and tell others say they can't sounds hypocritical. How about one standard for everyone.

I agree with you on the hoarding part and later deciding what they want but that's it. I don't have a problem with someone selling the stuff they bought on line. It's their items to do as they please with.

Why not mention to the people hading out the wrist bands that people were cutting in line? Better yet send the Flames an email detailing your complaints about the event. They can't look at making possible changes if they don't know what the problems are

I did bring it up as they were handing out the wristbands. The security guard simply shrugged her shoulders and kept walking.
