Default Draft eligible prospects attending the Flames' Draft Combine

With the interview portion wrapping up on the NHL's draft combine we are slowly getting word about prospects attending combines hosted by individual teams. Thought it would be a good idea to have it all in one thread instead of spreading it out in one of the mega draft threads.

(Brackets indicate other teams that the prospect will be attending)

Will be attending the Flames Combine:

  • Sean Monahan (Toronto, Buffalo, New Jersey, Edmonton)
  • Aleksander Barkov (Colorado, Florida, Tampa, Nashville, Carolina, Edmonton) *Only Confirmed that he will continue having meetings with teams that pick in the top 7
  • Nic Petan (unknown)

Will not be attending the Flames Combine:
  • Adam Erne (Toronto, New Jersey, Buffalo, Ottawa)
  • Kerby Rychel (Toronto, New Jersey, Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa)
  • Jacob De La Rose (Toronto, New Jersey)
  • Émile Poirier (Toronto, New Jersey, Buffalo, Montreal)
  • Rasmus Ristolainen (Toronto)
  • Elias Lindholm (Buffalo)
  • Robert Hagg (New Jersey, Buffalo)
Dates of the Flames combine have not been publicly released nor has it been announced if it is open to the public

Feaster did say that they would do the session at the UofC. I can't imagine it would be open to the public.

That would be super awkward when we're all jamed in a tiny room watching him rid a bike and puke after

Not really. If the Flames were in those positions they wouldn't be picking Monahan either.

Seeing how Lindholm wasn't invited i say that Monahan will be the Flames pick.

See? This kid is getting no love right now. They have to invite him you would think. Unless he was the one that they took to dinner the other night because he wasn't going to be around.

No word on him yet... only have confirmations from Monahan, Barkov, and Erne. List will be updated as more info comes.

I think the list isn't completed quite yet. I am sure closer to the end of the day the list will be updated. Flames have three picks in the first round. I assume there will be a bunch of kids heading to YYC for their camp.

To me, it's evidence that he's a significant drop below Barkov. I guess all indicators suggested that anyway.

I'd love to know if either NSH or CAR is considering Lindholm.

Nashville has Lindholm top 5 according to Paul Fenton, their assistant GM. I posted a video of his interview in the draft thread.

If true then it makes it a pretty big certainty that Mackinnon, Jones, Drouin, Barkov and Lindholm are your top 5, though not necessarily in that order.

The only wild card is Nishkushkskshkinsksushkin - if he goes at 4 - he pushes Barkov to 5 and Lindholm/Monahan are both there for Calgary.

or the Flames take Nichushkin?

If Your top 5 are correct and the Flames have a choice between Nichuskin and Monahan then Oilers pick the one the Flames leave. Either one of these guys will be the biggest guys in either teams top 6.

Just to clarify on Barkov...

He said that he will be in further conversations with the teams picking in the top 7. Not necessarily attending their combines.

I'd prefer to hope that he goes in the top four, Nashville allowed themselves to fall in love with Lindholm in the time between now and the draft thus allowing Barkov to slip to us.

No it doesn't.

Nash may have Lindholm 5th, but if they have a crack at Barkov they would take him. If Carolina doesn't have Lindholm 5th...

Just because one team has a guy in the top X, doesn't mean that player will go top X.

Conversely, even if only one team has a guy top X (i.e. not consensus), that can be enough for that player to go top X.

Those points seem contradictory, but are not. The point here is that the actual draft order can differ greatly from consensus, even though most teams lists look mostly similar to consensus.

Based on limited info and lots of speculation, it looks to me like the Flames really want to move up and grab Barkov...

when is this draft gonna happen? Getting restless... Monohan vs Lindholm back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, Barkov, Monohan, Landholm, Barkov... rinse and repeat...

AFAIK this is the first time the Flames have done this in a long time (if ever).

The Sabres are expecting 70-75 players at their combine with 30 of them having attended the NHL combine.
