It was a coincidental roughing call made before the goal.. refs don't know a goal will be scored.

It's kind of like calling holding on the right side of the line of scrimmage when the running back runs through the left side of the line for 50 yards.

*shrug*

Either way, what an awesome period. This one looks like it could go for a long time.

And now that I said that, it'll be over fast. Because, weirdly enough, what I say on this message board changes what happens in real hockey games 1500 miles away.

I'll balance you out and call for a quick goal

the problem isn't the whistle or blowing up when there's coincidentals

the problem is that the only penalty Saad could have been called for the being the victim of a mugging

Sure, but it should have been a Detroit penalty only if the Ref was going to make a call.

Total rip off.

Ron - stop talking about your days as a ref. Better yet, just stop talking.

That's not it at all. Calm down man.

That scoring chance wouldn't have even occurred if the Hawks were on the PK. It's not about the Wings scoring on the PP.

Yeah, perspective is meaningless when the torches are already lit.

Nah, they were both guilty there. Off-setting minor penalties was the right call. Quincey's helmet didn't rip itself off his head and Saad threw a punch when he was on the ground. Really, though, less than two-minutes to go in a tied game seven and those two are playing waltzing matilda a hundred feet from the play? No excuse for that.

CBC replay shows (or let's us hear) that the whistle went before Hjalmarsson even shot.

Pathetic, Saad did nothing but get mugged. I hope the Hawks win this quickly.

You believe what you want and I'll believe what I want. I believe the Wings have benefited from officiating for over a decade and your opinion isn't going to change that.

Basically. Bizarre call I don't remember seeing a goal called back on a play like that. I don't know what Saad was supposed to do, he was driven into the bench then shoved to the ice, and he gets a penalty?

Go Hawks! A matchup with the Kings is too good to pass up.

Both guilty. Ok. Quincey's helmet was knocked off while Saad was on his back on the boards being pushed into the bench. Pretty safe to assume at that point putting your arms in the air in an attempt to push the mugger off of you it's not really roughing and more "trying not to fall head first into the bench".

Sure Saad did throw a punch, long after the whistle had been blown. Not sure how the official could predict that considering it hadn't happened when the whistle was blown and Chicago had possession, so obviously that was not the reason for blowing the play dead.

Both guilty indeed.

There is the play in case anyone wants another look. To me it looks like only the Detroit player should've been penalized

That's about as bad as it gets, I doubt we will see a worse call this playoffs.

I can't help but think age will help Detroit here by not getting nervous. I hope I'm wrong.
