Just got sirius radio about 2 months ago and started listening to Howard Stern. Have not at all missed Jim Rome or the terrible excuse for a morning show (aside from Boomer).

I don't mind Rome but the Clone humour and smack off don't do much for me. I prefer Hockey Central to Rome. I would rather listen to any hockey talk vs. an interview from some coach (that I have never heard) of a basketball program in an obscure US college (that I have never heard of).
I do like the "I don't like that call" song though.

Why? Because he congratulates himself for 30 mins after each interview?

Jay Mohr has the angelic voice that you'd expect to come from such a nice boy. You might be thinking of Farrel.

Big thanks to Sportsnet for ruining my noon-1pm in the car.
I love hockey, but I don't need it all day on the radio. Rome provides a great break to talk about other sports. Another hour of my life having to listen to the likes of Millard, Kypreos and Maclean is ridiculous, all three of these guys couldn't manage a AAA midget team. Really disappointed stooped this low to listen to these guys

Great Move by the Fan,
7 or 8 years ago, I worked Weekends and had Monday/Tuesday off. I would watch HC@noon on SN Ontario well I had breakfast.
For some reason Kypros doesn't come off a dumb on that show.
I also used to turn the station off if I went out for lunch, I don't anymore.
Now they just need to get Pat to stop interviewing MMA fighters, don't care if you like the sport or not, those guys are just bad interviews.

I can't believe there are so many people on here that would rather have hockeycentral @ noon then Jim Rome.
Think what you want of Jim Rome (there are parts of what he does that are grating to me too), but at least its something DIFFERENT.
Morning Show - nearly all hockey.
Afternoon Show - nearly all hockey.
No matter how much I love hockey, do I really want to hear the fourth or fifth set of radio hosts talking about the same stories in the day? No. Do I want to hear more Toronto Maple Leaves talk? Also, no.
I wouldn't have a problem with arguing that Jim Rome should be replaced with something else. But to replace only one hour of the most different show they have on during the day with some more hockey talk, and hockey talk not even based here. I don't see how anyone could desire that.

Couple points from my end
- I like Rome, but I think his show has gone downhill since TR left. The show always walked a fine balance between strong sports talk and the inside jokes/clone stuff. I think since Travis left it has crossed that line.
- People want less hockey talk but the problem is outside of hockey the audience becomes more fractured. So you have some people who want more football, some who want more baseball, some who want more golf, etc. Within the group of people that want less hockey – there is not common ground on what they want instead, so no matter what you do instead of hockey, you are turning off more of your audience. That’s why hockey rules the day on Canadian sports radio – because it is the most common interest.

I don't mind listening to Rome on occasion, but he talks way too much about sports that I don't give a crap about. Baseball? I don't care. Basketball? I don't care. College anything? I really effin don't care.
I hate all the stupid verbiage on that show though. Clones, Smack, Takes, Banging monkeys, etc etc....just so effin lame coming from a bunch of office jockeys trying way too hard. The Morning Show on the fan keeps ripping off this stuff too, which is double lame.
As much as it gets repetitive, I'd rather it just be 100% hockey on the fan.

I talked to Kirch for a long time over the phone a few weeks back and he basically said the same thing. It's likely true that ratings are high but that's because he is looking at an extremely narrow demographic, I think he told me it was between males 25-32 or something.
He also didn't like it when I repeated a quote to him that he was taking a niche radio station (sports talk) and pushing it further to the niche (hockey 24/7).
Judging by some of the comment here, he may be right. Sadly, a lot of people here aren't sports fans, they're hockey fans. Actually, scratch that, they are NHL fans. If that's the case 960 needs to simply rebrand themselves as HockeyNet960 or NHL Radio.
I like listening the Rome and the late night CBS coverage because we get a wide range of takes and sports coverage - basketball, football, college sports, baseball, some Olympic talk, golf etc.
During the endless local programming we get:
Golf - Walker talking for 15 min a week with no insight. I miss Dowbiggen spending an hour or two on the subject.
Football - all talk is limited to how the guys are betting on the games and what the lines are
Olympics - the guys laughing on how little they understand the sports
NBA - usually pop culture references and that's it
Baseball - decent when it comes to BlueJays but nothing else.
I no longer listen to 960 beyond the Weekends for Jim Hunter's show and late nights for CBS coverage.
I listen to the entire Rome show online from Vancouver (Team 1410). In fact, Vancouver does it right. They have a station for dominating hockey talk and another station for all other shows and sports. I love it.

This is my issue. I listened to him quite a bit about a decade ago and really enjoyed it. Now it is full of Deca-yeahs and inside jokes repeated over and over and I find myself only listening for nostaglia purposes.

i only enjoy rome because he is different. But what I would like to hear most from the Fan is more local content during the evenings and weekends. weekends seem to be mostly a rehash of the "best of"........
I'd also like to hear Michelle wie and Vijay singh call in again.......

Pat goes round and round and round on his own. He makes the same point about 4 times in his monologue answers/opinions.
The Fan is pretty poor overall.
