Quick was the difference. San Jose outplayed LA for a lot of the series but Quick is even better this year then he was in last year's playoffs.

It's not finalized until the Detroit/Chicago game.

Good news for SJ. they have replaced Manny Maholtra...

Joe Thorton - 26 shifts no hits, no shots on goal 1 missed shot but was 10-6 in faceoffs.

Brad Richard contributed almost as much in NYR's elimination game as Thorton did for SJ.

His name is Thornton and he was one of the few guys who actually played with heart in the playoffs. Marleau had a great 1st round but did a lot of nothing against LA.

Wow, what have you done for me lately. Thornton was pretty damn good in these playoffs IMO.

Yes it's 21 if Detroit wins. I was wrong so many times in the first round, I spent a little time figuring it out as well. Was frustrating to learn. Lol

OKay, good. My brain won't explode now. I should have been a little clearer. This series ended solidifies the pick to be 22 at worst now. Nothing no one didn't know before, it's just a technicality of being official.

Great series. Anyone still pedaling the "Sharks choke in the playoffs" narrative is just lazy at this point.

A Game 7 and how would you rate his performance.

If either goalie plays to the level Thornton did this game and the game would be a blow out and they would become the next Loungo.

Once again, a great series between these two teams in this second installment of the battle of California.

Guess it depends on how you look at it, this is a team game. They may have never even saw game 7 if Thornton hadn't played 22 minutes and scored a goal in game 6.

Personally I thought Thornton was probably the most consistent player thus far in the playoffs (along with Quick). I don't blame him at all for the Sharks losing this series. They ran into an elite Kings team, and had issues with depth scoring. Where was Scott Gomez and his 9 game seven's tonight? Oh and Marleau disappeared for much of the second rounder just like Oilfan said.

Happy to see the Kings win though, and if the Blackhawks win tomorrow we should be in for two phenomenal Conference Finals.

Oh and TSN brought up a point that Quick is playing dominant goaltending similar to what Hasek did towards the late 90's. I think that may be the case, as I can't recall a better goalie since the Dominator roamed the nets a while back.

You don't seem to get as many homer 7 game series in the NHL as they get in the NBA. Impressive for a team in the bottom half of the playoff bracket to make the Conference finals in consecutive seasons like the Kings have. I think that shows how close the true top teams in the West really are.

Sorry, but Thornton has been in the playoffs enough that we all know he doesn't show up at times in big games.

He was the best player in the last game when the Sharks were facing elimination. Just because it was game six doesn't mean it wasn't a "big game".
