Anybody ever been to any festivals in Europe? I'm heading to Download Festival in a few weeks and was just sort of curious if its going to be that much different than a North American festival.

The crowds are way better. European crowds are very involved, and create really special experiences. You see a tiny bit of it over here, but for the most part North America crowds have mastered the "stand still and watch, and pull out my cell phone to take a ****ty video every once and a while" experience.

Check out this video of Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons from their show last week in Calgary. This is most North American crowds. Everyone just stands there filming the show through their crappy cell phones. Very little movement in the crowd. European crowds are just awesome in comparison.
So Download Festival was such a gong show in the best way possible. For starters kudos to the Brits, holy hell can they drink or what? Festival organizers said they sold 1.2 million pints (!!!) in 3 days, and that doesn't even include the alcohol people brought on their own to the campsite. So yeah it was a rather drunken affair.
Donington is a pretty sweet venue, though it got very muddy, very fast with just a little rain. It never really poured hard, but there were a few periods of steady rain and that was that. Should have taken a picture of our campsite are, but it was ugly. A pair of shoes and pants were ruined for sure.
They also had a wicked awesome village area that was basically like the Stampede midway but with much better entertainment and food choices. Crocodile burgers? An ostrich food joint? Mexican, Greek, Indonesian food, just so many choices. And the late night comedy tent was awesome too.
So yeah I guess everyone should enjoy a festival in Europe if they're all like that. The crowds were rowdy, the girls were flashing the tits nonstop and the music was awesome. Even though it was kind of a disaster from the planning standpoint and the grounds were a mess with the mud, it was still the most fun disaster ever.
