At least they're using a letterform as the primary component of their logo.
The best thing the NHL could do is mandate that all jerseys be wordmarks. Your home jersey would sport the nickname and the away would be your city. Logos would be reserved for shoulders, helmets, and center ice.

The logo from the Texas Stars away jersey should be on their home jersey and the away jersey should be the same pattern as the home jersey.

Haha! This ain't baseball!
Actually, I get annoyed when the home and away workmarks rules aren't followed...like the Tampa Bay Rays or the Angles of Los Angleles in Anaheim that plays in California.
I think I read somewhere that the Stars did the wordmark and the numberthing so that their jersey will be more inline with the other 3 pro sports in Texas...and I didn't mind it too much.

For whatever reason, the NHL teams are all obsessed with piping and off angle stripes...awful. Let's keep it simple folks.

Beautiful jerseys

Those aren't bad, but the logo still needs work and it really doesn't come close to the North Stars jerseys:
I'd take those over either of the concepts posted. They should just put a simple logo on these and reclaim those colours.

they seem set to go away from the gold/yellow, but I wonder how those uniforms would look with the grey/silver instead of the yellow as well as the new logo(s) on the front

I hate jerseys so much nowadays. That North Stars jersey is gorgeous. Now we have this trash for Dallas and the Minnesota Wild's ugly as sin jerseys and stupid team name. I wish I was in charge of jerseys and logos and even team names. Someone to to take the keys away from drunk owners wanting to name their team the Pelicans or Bobcats or Wild. FFS. This grinds my gears!

I like the trend towards more traditional looking jerseys and away from stripes angled in silly directions or that stupid piping.
