Ordered my Nexus 4 today; three months after my iPhone 5 was stolen, and after suffering through the incomprehensible incompetence of the HTC Windows Phone 8S, I'm finally going to have a phone that belongs in 2013.
I know this is the Nexus thread, but how Microsoft thought this was an acceptable product blows my mind.

Mine is supposed to be delivered on Thursday. I've been using a work issued Blackberry for 3 years now, but the screen failed and I've been using a loaner Pearl for a month now (I hate it) and figured since I am leaving work in August I'd buy one outright and see what a provider other than Telus can do. Plus the phone looks cool and I already have a Nexus 7.

I only have a minute here but Nexus phones are pure Android... That touchWiz Crap Samsung puts over it is garbage.
There are draw backs, and the Galaxy series of phones are fantastic in their own right... But LG made a beautiful phone.

I'll first say that I'm upgrading from an HTC windows 8S. Maybe the worst phone ever made.
The nexus 4 is 60 bucks more through the play store and the only drawback I've found is the lack of LTE which I could care less about.
Everything about this device screams premium and it doesn't have a premium price. The screen is lovely. Everyone who compares PPI and 1080 v 720 is wasting their time. The eyes of 99% of people can't tell any difference on screens this size.
Everything runs buttery smooth, and while I haven't played around with any launchers yet, I'm loving the overall look and feel of jelly bean. And having never used it before , swipe typing typing is bananas.
Everything I need this thing to do works so well that I can realistically see myself avoiding any smartphone upgrade impulses for the next two years.

I really wish Google had done a better job of promoting the Nexus 4, outside the online community.
Everywhere I go, I show off my Nexus 4. People write it off. "A what?" So I show them the features, pure android, etc. Then they're sold. "Why haven't I heard of this? How long has it been out?" Then they're blown away.
So as a result, a lack of accessories and add-ons are available for the Nexus 4. I've actually seen more selection for the tablet (Nexus 7). There is plenty of things ONLINE, but it's all very cheap and not very good. There are some good brands (dbrand, Incipio).
Maybe the Nexus 4 was a "test" to see how well it would do. Maybe the next Nexus (Motorola?) will have a bigger campaign, both online and outside...ie: Samsung GS3 and GS4. Man they did a great job promoting the fata out of it, and it paid off.
Just a minor thing that bugs me (grinds my gears). I'm finding more and more accessories, but it all seems a little late.

I've been stuck in wireless contracts with Rogers since I was in high school, but my current one expires in September. I plan on purchasing a Nexus 4 once my contract does expire. Are there limitations to which carriers I can go to?
Or is there a better way to go about upgrading to a Nexus 4 in general?
Any help would be great.

It will work on any network, just pop in your sim card and you're good to go.
I'd just buy it out right to be honest. You're so close to the finish line on your current one and if it was me I wouldn't want to get stuck in another. The phone is already pretty great... Then you factor in the even greater price out right.

Yup, I meant to specify I was looking at getting it from Google Play, $359 + tax is pretty awesome.
How does one go about getting the best month-to-month deal possible?

Let your contract come to a close and when one of Rogers/Telus/Bell try to re-up with you start the negotiation process. Look out for deals when you're bringing in a new phone too, sometimes the various carriers have deals if you bring in your own device.
Always Wind Mobile too, though the future is shaky it seems. Mobilicity is being bought by Telus so they're out and Wind seems to be hanging in. Obviously the smaller guys have their drawbacks but they had a good deal for porting in the Nexus 4 recently and their deals are fantastic. WHen I go out of my home zone when traveling I've paid more then my standard 40/month but it still hasn't come close to the 100+/month I would spend with one of the big 3 each month.

Probably won't happen. The Nexus devices have always been Google's reference design phones, they never intended them to be a main flagship device. That was evident when they had so many stock issues when the Nexus 4 first came out. Plus Google doesn't care about hardware sales, all their money is from advertising.
The average consumer doesn't know or care about the "pure" Android experience. If Google were to create a major marketing campaign for the Nexus, it could upset their hardware partners who all have their own flagship phones. The only reason they exist is so that Google has a device running stock Android to show developers how it should work (i.e. trying to move away from physical buttons to on-screen menus)

There must be some demand for the 'pure' experience however, what with Google announcing the Google Pure S4, and strong rumours of a Google Pure HTC One coming out soon.

With those new phones coming out do you think this is the death of the nexus?

Pure android experience is far better imo. I'd take my GF's nexus 4 over a samsung galaxy any day.

Yeah I'm hoping when my Galaxy Nexus comes up for replacement in 12 months that there is a good solid pure android phone available, otherwise I will ride it til it dies.

While small, the advanced Android users are still a market, and with how strong sales of the Nexus 4 have been companies notice. It will cost Samsung and HTC literally nothing to release stock versions and will earn them a ton of goodwill from the vocal hardcore and developer communities. Total win/win
