That said I'd prefer we grab some bigger players as we do already have Baertschi and Gaudreau as small forwards.

I don't understand why people continue to say Domi is overhyped because of his name. His stats, skills, and skating ability speak for themselves. His last name gives him a bit of notoriety but NHL teams and scouts don't take that into consideration and if they do they aren't very good at their jobs.

I'm referring to his stock jumping in the past week due to a highlight reel play. Obviously he is a first rounder, but toronto based media outlets were creaming themselves over that play and were proclaiming Domi in the 8-10 range. Wouldn't want him there at all, and certainly wouldn't want to trade down so we can grab him.

I would be happy with either at that point of the draft, but I am also for Horvat first. I bet both will be gone before the St. Louis pick though, so it is probably all moot anyway.

I think he's a couple of years away, I think he rated about 10th-12th on many lists but after watching I think his teammate Horvat will go before him as will Shinkaruk and Mantha.

I don't think his stock jumped this week in fact I dout the Memorial Cup has changed too many scouts and teams views on players they were looking at. Domi didn't come out of nowhere as he has been touted as many as getting picked in the top 15. I would be estatic if the Flames could get any of Domi, Horvat, or Shinkaruk but it's very possible that none of those players are available at the Blues pick.

Seems to me like Domi would be a fan favorite. If in fact he is 5'10 and almost 200 lbs, that's not that small- bigger than Cammy, Byron, Sven, and Hudler. And I don't think Cammy at 5'9 190 lbs is too small to play in the NHL, either was Theo. I'm not saying people don't think he can't play in the NHL and would just prefer to be bigger, but I prefer skill and apparently, he's got a lot of skill. Seems great offensively and the thing I like- he hits ! Here was a quote from his coach...
"He has extensive offensive skills and his skating ability is -- and I hate to say it -- [Sidney] Crosby-esque," London coach Dale Hunter said. "You never want to compare [a player] to someone like that, but he has a very strong lower torso, so his center of gravity is amazing."
Perhaps the comparisons to Crosby have some substance with regard to work ethic since Domi occasionally trains with the Pittsburgh Penguins' captain.
I would hate to draft purely by inches and 200 lbs is definately big enough- plus he's only 18 yet so I would assume he will fill out more. I hope he is available with our St.Louis pick cause I think he will be a gooder.

No way Domi slides past out of the top 15 imo.

I believe in the Pony Power

I think Domi could easily slide because he has significant holes in his game that some teams may worry about. Around the 20 pick I think he makes sense - I'd be worried about taking him earlier.
EDIT: Again, one of the pluses of having multiple picks is I think you can be more bold an pick up a guy like this if he drops with some risk attached to him.

Not questioning that he's a solid mid - late first rounder, but the Flames, more than other teams (recall a couple of terrible trades), should recognize that any player with Toronto connections gets over-valued/ over-hyped

I'm not sure if I would call the holes 'significant' but he needs to work on his defensive game. I don't know if that's a big deal though as it's clear that it wasn't the role the team used him for as Horvat was used more in scenarios where they were holding on to leads late in games. He's like a lot of skilled juniors in that they will likely have to spend some time in the AHL learning the 2-way game. Think Nazem Kadri for example who is still work in progress but has made the leap to the NHL and produced.

Really for me just with Memorial Cup and internet highlights. I dont believe posters here are pretending to be scouts. Really all we have as fans is what we see on television, internet, and read in scouting reports unless you happen to live in an area where there is an OHL team where you see him then you have a leg up. If everyone had to see all these prospects play multiple times to post an opinion then the draft threads would be pretty empty.

We need aggressive players and players that can play on the walls and control the puck. Having a low center of gravity is a huge plus for being tiny.
