Drouin is 5'11"

Nichushkin is 6'3"

Maybe they are worried about how Drouin's game will transition to the NHL? Only their scouts know, so no idea, Just a thought.

No guarantee, but it's unlikely to happen. I wouldn't classify either of those organisations as 'risk-takers'... Carolina might be interested to bring in another talented Russian I suppose, but I doubt Nashville takes the risk.

If Tampa have spotted their man in 'Schkinner & have the resolve to take him no matter what they would be silly to not recoup another asset for him. If he doesn't go early I reckon he drops.

I still think Drouin will be best the player in the draft and would love a move by Feaster to move up or by some miracle he slips down to 6. But we all learned what a disaster it is for an NHL team to play with wingers in the middle so I understand the sentiment that we have to pick Monahan or Lindholm. But mark my words, Drouin will be the best. Draft centers with every other pick we have for the next 2 years.

Lindholm did not play centre last year. The year before in junior he played on a line with Detroit 2nd round draft pick Calle Järnkrok who plays centre.

Lindholm seems to play a centre when the team needs a centre.... like Cammalleri and Tanguay.

That is not very encouraging. I really like Lindholm as a prospect but I would really rather have a natural center to build the team around instead of a winger-converted. Of course, if he can become a natural center over the next couple years of development then it would work out for us.

In my mind this would make Monahan a bit more desirable as he sounds like a natural 2-way center.

I gotta wonder what Elias Lindholm did to Ricardo to hate him so. He is a natural center that is versatile enough to play wing. The exact same thing is being bantered about MacKinnon as well but no one seems to think anything of it. I.E he may end up being a RW in the NHL. Not my opinion but the thoughts are out there.

Link to a pretty good report on Lindholm where they go on to say what Ricardo brings up but to be critical of versatility is a little weird.

Picking apart any potential top 10 draft pick is pretty weird especially where all of the information we have it 2nd or 3rd at hand as it's scouts that have spent all the time watching the kids. Lindholm is obviously one of the top 18 year hockey players in the world and if Flames scouts deem him the best player available and take him at 6th I will be happy just as I will be happy if they take Monahan instead. I don't pretend to know more than them and considering these two players both fill an organization need for the Flames I'm just happy that they may get one of them.

The only thing that would disappoint me is if they go off the board or take a defenseman with the pick but that's a different argument.

Fully agree. There should be TONS of excitement for either player. Both have great potential. I am going to be as happy as a clam as long as they take one of the three forwards that will be available at #6. I'm just having a hard time reading such a one sided Bias because of two inches in height.

There are almost no centre's that won't be able to play on the wing...There are very few wingers that adapt to be a centre.

If you are not a centre at a lower level chances are very slim that you will adapt to the extra responsibility at a higher level.

Team Canada for the Olympic will be loaded with NHL centres that will play on the wing when they move up a level to the Olympics.

On the Canadian 2013 world cup team out of the 13 forwards

Hall, Stamkos, Duschene, O'Rielly,Staal, Staal and Giroux are NHL centres.

6 wingers.

This is not to say that Lindholm will not be a solid NHL player and the best forward in Flames history was a RW (If you don't count Nieuwendyk)

Not going to carry on after this: (sorry if this gets long)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elias_Lindholm

From NHL CSS: Lindholm, a 5-foot-11 3/4, 181-pound righty-shooting center, projects to be a future top-six NHL forward with star potential. He's also regarded as an A prospect on Central Scouting's preliminary list of the top European players to watch entering the 2012-13 season.

Every single thing draft related has Lindholm as a Center primarily and winger secondary. All of it. So to make room on the top six for him as they also have his cousin (older and more experienced) he was shuffled to the wing as the younger player on the team. Good. Again you speak as if he has never played center his entire life and every scouting report has him at center. I believe there's an interview somewhere where his coach said as much. They have great chemistry so why break it up?

Okay. I don't want to drag this on anymore.

Hall is not a center. Also, Giroux played wing all season.

My mistake on Hall.... so 7 wingers and 6 centres.

Giroux took more faceoffs than all other Flyer players combined.

Voracek RW was on the ice 60% of the time that Giroux was on.
Hartnell LW was on the ice 29%
Read LW replace Harnell as the LW on the top line and was 30% on with Giroux
Simmonds RW 20%
Gagne LW 16%.

Link

If that is not enough take the 2010 olympic roster 13 forwards 7-8 Centres

Patrice Bergeron
Sidney Crosby#–#A
Ryan Getzlaf
Patrick Marleau
Mike Richards
Eric Staal
Joe Thornton
Jonathan Toews

Marleau has been moved to the wing in the NHL after being a centre for his first 7 years ,after San Jose got Thorton.

Big misconception out there is that a forward is a center if he takes draws and isn't if he doesn't. Faceoffs are important but they are like 5-10% of playing the center position.

Giroux has played C in any PHI game I've watched over the past 2 seasons (not that it's been a ton of games, though)

Agreed, Feasters list at #6 better be a center after Jones and Drouin are picked and leave Nichushkin to a team with lots of prospects and can take a chance.

Well with the revelation that Nichushkin will be coming over pretty much right away, it sounds pretty likely that we'll definitely have our pick of these two guys. More and more of the lists I see seem to put Lindholm in that definitive "sub-elite" tier right behind the big 4 (big 5 now, I guess), with Monahan trailing behind a bit.

I'd be happy with either pick as well (and also disappointed with a D-man), but to me it sounds like Lindholm possesses much of what Monahan does, with perhaps a bit more offensive skill and flair to his game (and a couple fewer inches in height). He's been described as smart, mature for his age, in possession of a high hockey IQ, fairly refined two-way game, etc. You'd think that these things will all be coveted by the Flames on the 30th of June.

Nichushkin is coming over, but said he's going home if he doesn't make the NHL. I don't think it moves him up, the flight risk is obviously still there.

Nichushkin is going to TB. That's my guess. He isn't slipping out of the top three or five at the very very least. If he does manage to slip to Calgary, well prepare to be very disappointed if you don't like Russians players or the inherent risk involved with drafting some of them. Players that are that fast and big won't be picking up their ball and going home. He's going to be an NHL'er for a very long time.

Nichushkin says he's coming over but I want to hear what Dynamo says before thinking it will happen. As you say, even if he comes over, if he doesn't like it he'll be gone tout sweet. Maybe on our 21st pick he'd be a decent gamble.
