The concensus is that AV is a good coach but the one negative to him is that he enabled the diving and whining culture that is prevalant with this team.... will his next team adopt that personality?

that is why Nonis couldnt cut it in Vancouver, wasnt arrogant enough. Gillis might be worse than Burke for arrogance... fits that franchise to a T

As arrogant as Gillis is, its the constant whining that bothers me most about him.

So will the Canucks be better or worse next year?

My guess is worse. Gillis still has his job and they'll probably replace Vigneault with someone not as good.

I might be waaaay off here but I see the NYR moving on from Torts once they lose tomorrow. And they replace him with AV.

Cripes, the Flames are always one step behind the ball. I'd take the Nucks coaching staff over the Flames' coaching staff for the past 8 years. Wow, WTF's the Canuck's organization thinking? Like I said before, if the Canucks don't win that Cup against the Bruins a couple of years back, they'll never get that chance again with that core group of players. Not the coaches' fault.

Torts might be a great replacement in Vancity, that's what the softies on the Canucks need, Fire and Brimstone up 2 more notches.

Maybe they can work Luongo in on that deal

The canucks will be better in the long run when the culture of diving and whining is gone. It'll take a few years.

Vigneault will be coaching in the league next year. A case of trying to get the same message accross to pretty much the same group of core players for too long without achieving the pinnacle level of success.

He would fit well with the Rangers as he might be able to coax enough more offence out of that group to get them to the next level. Tortarella is in his 5th season with this group, 4th full one....I think you have to go back to Al Arbour to find a coach who won a cup after spending that long coaching the same team.

And the downward spiral begins in Van....And I love it !! AV was their scapegoat- Gillis should of been let go first. Between his crappy trades and his inability to move greasy Bob thus creating a drama surrounding the team and I'm sure in the dressing room as well. I think they are gonna be hard pressed to find a better coach than AV and I think they should of looked at making other moves like moving the aging Sisters and many of their over-rated players.

I thought AV preferred a more defensive style and was basically forced into playing a more offensive style from the GM?

I can't recall, did his team dive in his season where the Canucks were defense first?

Now Gillis can focus on finding a replacement coach, which Florida Panther (likely Stephen Weiss) he can sign this offseason, and begging teams to give up anything of substance for accepting the boat anchor contract he gave to Luongo. Good times in Vancouver.

I can see it now that A.V is the coach that eliminates the Nucks next year in the playoffs.

It doesn't matter who coaches the Canucks. They need to make substantial change in their lineup and culture. They have too many prima donnas on that team and very little character. The sisters need to go and be replaced by a couple of players with more jam and less jelly. That will never happen and it will be the advantage of every other team in their division.

I actually think they'll be better next season due to realignment and being in a comparatively soft division.
