Iggy VS Alfie
Alfie: Rebuilds the ship.
Iggy: Abandons the ship.
Iggy: Leaves to win a cup for the the name on the back of the jersey
Alfie: Shooting for one last chance to bring glory for the team on the front of the jersey.
Who's more classy?
Who's more loyal?
Who do you have more respect for?

There was all kinds of smoke suggesting that Alfredsson would be moved, but he wasn't. Granted, Alfredsson was not an upcoming UFA at the time, but he could have just as easily requested a trade.

The Flames came to Iginla for the trade, Iginla didn't seek it out.

If Iginla didn't waive and played out his contract, people here would be screaming bloody murder.

Iginla abandoned ship? What a joke. The management WENT to Iggy and approached him about a trade. He said himself that if the management wanted to go in a different direction then he would be open for a trade. People need to stop making Iggy out to be the villain.
Also factor in that Iginla never played on a line with a Heatley or Spezza.

I dont see it that way.
How did the sen's get Zibinegad? By finishing as the 5th last team in the league. Did Alfie leave? No.
How many times have they missed the playoffs in the past 9 years? Probably as many times as Calgary
where have the sens finished in the standings over the past few years? Comparable to Calgary.
How old is Alfie? 40. He's almost done.
How old is Iggy? 34. Six years left.

This thread will last long.
Alfie's team isn't terrible and aging. Alfie's team has a good coach. Alfie's team has a Vezna caliber goalie. Alfie's team has more than 1 young good player. Alfie's team plays decent defense. Alfie has Karlsson.

Yeah, Alfredsson has never been the best forward on his team, it's been debatable but with Iginla it's been a given. Even before Spezza and Heatley, Alfreddson was playing with guys like Marian Hossa.

So Iginla's problem was that he couldn't lead the Flames to a tank job as well as Alfredsson. Got it.

first post has to be trolling
'abandons the ship'
why would Alfie abandon Ottawa?? they have a tremendous future and tons of young guys who are stepping up right now
Iginla was likely never going to make it out of the first round in his career again considering his age
Iginla letting the Flames know early and accepting a trade helped the Flames rebuild

Here's a truth for you:
Iginla with a bunch of scrubs made it to game 7 in the Stanley cup finals
Alfredsson with Spezza and Heatley only lasted 5 games.
