Saw this on twitter this morning. This is awesome! Can you imagine the press conferences?
Reporter: Patrick, why did you change the lines so much?
Roy: I'm sorry, I can't hear you. I have my Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears
I think his passion will do good things for the Avs. Quite the contrast to Sacco
He'd be the perfect Oilers coach then. How many players in the NHL have as much winning experience as Patrick Roy? I think he knows a little bit about winning if that's a concern.

However, he has won as much as Lowe in a management/coaching capacity...

I can't wait till his team gets blown out one night, and he walks along the bench telling every player "that's the last game you'll ever play for the Avalance"
Glad it's finally happening so we don't have to hear rumours regarding it anymore. Will be interesting to see him back in the NHL. I have reservations on how he will fare given his combustible nature. May be one of those guys that has an immediate impact but short shelf life much like Michel Therrien who always seems to get good initial results but as soon as adversity sets in he gets unglued and melts down.
I don't know why, but it seems like goalies, quarterbacks and pitchers go into coaching much less often than position players in each of the major North American sports. Who was the last goalie to have success as a head coach in the NHL?
Sounds like they are more interested in getting a name then a coach. This and the Sakic hire tells me the PR department is running hockey operations.
Maybe they need that to maintain interest in Colorado. But if was a fan I would be concerned.
This is great news for Colorado, if anything they should be excited that it seems like they're actually on there way to become a serious team again with Lacroix's out, Sacco out, Sakic and Roy in. No way Roy would take this job if he felt management would hold the team back.

Why? Roy has actual coaching experience, and winning experience at that. His players seem to love him. Heck, Radulov said something like he'd swim across the ocean to play for Roy again and that guy occasionally assaults his coaches.
I would be worried if they hired him simply for his name, but he has been developing his own coaching style and refining it in the minors and has done very well for himself.

It just so happens that Roy also faced assault charges! Like-minded individuals, perhaps? He's hot-headed and down right nasty.
