Saskatoon lucky to be up 2 but likely doesn't matter much to Halifax as they beat London and finish 1st anyways.
Or more likely they score 4 or 5 goals in the third and win this game easily.

Makarov when he's on in a game hasn't collapsed once in the third this season from what I've seen. He can either be hot or cold game to game but I really doubt he lets in 4 in the third.

I don't know if I missed it somewhere but is Makarov any relation to the "Great" Sergei Makarov?

He hasn't faced a team like Halifax and I don't have much (any?) confidence in the guys in front of him.
He may not let in 4 but Halifax is certainly good enough to put that many but more past him.

Blades are bullying Halifax with their size, that was a great gritty goal there. Pure garbage goal, but you have to like the effort to try to dictate the play out there.
Don't get me wrong, Halifax is a much, much more skilled team, but Saskatoon is playing them pretty well tonight.

Yeah, Halifax can't deal with the size. Makarov has been stellar.

He played for the Russian national junior team, so he's faced top competition.
oh yeah, 4-0 for the Blades now.

You notice him tonight, Halifax is targeting his line, but he hasnt been anything special.. I didn't get to see Fridays game but from what i read on twitter etc it sounded like a decent game for him.
4-2 now, Halifax really coming on now. Lots of time still.

I would trade Stempniak for Mike Richards.
Or take RFA Stephan or Hagelin or Zucurello for a prospect and a 2nd or 3rd round pick round pick. These guys would not be getting O'Rielly offer sheets but will want at least 3M like the Subban bargain.
Let the Rangers buy out Brad Richards and the Flame could use him as a stop gap for 2M/year.
The landscape will change but the Flames are in great position to take advantage.
|
You might trade Stempniak for Richards but there is no way LA would.
Brad Richards at $2 million would have many teams after him. I doubt he choses the team with the least chance of making the playoffs.
The flames are not the only team with cap surplus. Even if you were correct that the flames get to pick and chose like you said in another post, where would all these in coming players play? There really is not a lot of openings for the flames next year. If most other teams are in cap jail like you suggested then the flames would n ot be able to trade off players like Cammi, Tanguay and Stajan to make room for the new players. Sven and Horak should have spots before bringing in a bunch of overpaid "meh" ufa players.

I think the situation has changed for the flames to talk UFA's into coming to Calgary. Last year Feaster could sell the team as a 9th place team that needed a couple of players to get them in the playoffs. That will not work this year.
The buy out players are not going to be studs, most will be like Booth, Ballard level. Even if there are some studs, more than likely they will have made so much money in past contracts that they will sign with a team on the cheap side for a chance at the playoffs.

Not sure but Makarov in Russia would be like a Smith in Canada.

Impressive win from the Blades. Makarov was great and Fucale continues to confuse me...I just don't see the hype. Drouin with a fairly quite game again while MacKinnon is stepping his game up big time. Love the fire and compete he has. Hard to believe he is a couple days removed from being a 2014. Soo sad the flames missed the chance to have a crack at him.
