Probably a valid reason on why he didn't get any sympathy from the refs. I can't imagine if it was a legitimate equipment issue they would have cared (atleast they don't seem to in the NHL).

Just said on TSN that IIHF rules state they can only adjust/change/fix equipment if he takes a timeout for a team. Or penalty for delay of game.
