I think it's more people really wanted to vote against or punish the Liberals, but were afraid of the NDP in power

I don't even think it was that. Dix just doesn't inspire anything.

If I had to summarize myself I'd say that rather than last minute changes of heart of the electorate this is more indicative that political polling is no longer reliable.

Phone and internet polling are clearly not capturing an accurate cross section of society anymore. A swing on the last day isn't unusual but we're talking about a 14-16% variance from the final polls in the ballot box. Huge

ya I was going to add before you posted

with a quality leader, things might be different, but the whole campaign would be different, Liberals couldn't tie someone specific back to the failures of the 90s

my guess is the happiest person tonight is Gregor

I think he's the NDP leader by the next election

Didn't really care who won, but I can't believe the NDP blew this election. If they can't win in this kind of climate, are they ever going to win again?

It'll be funny if Clark loses her seat though.

The right and left wings of BC politics both got battered tonight. NDP... obvious beat down, squandered a huge lead and proved again that trying to avoid attack ads doesn't pay off, sad but true.

The Conservative party, from polling over 20% a year or two ago has been basically eliminated as a force in BC and the so called 801 group and the right wing of the BC Liberal party who despise Christy Clark and her past federal Liberal associations took a major beating today. Probably means with certainty that Kevin Falcon will never return to provincial politics in BC.

wow

the NDP has gone down in the % in every region in BC outside metro Vancouver

everyone involved in this campaign should never work in politics again, this should have been a slam dunk, and instead they are losing ground

I always thought the BC Liberals were the equivalent of the Alberta PC party.

not quite

under Campbell they were closer to the conservatives, now with Clarke they are probably closer to a centrist or slightly centre-right party and closer to the Federal Liberals

Did Clarke keep her seat?

She's always reminded me of the woman who does the Lisa Simpson voice.

20 polls left to report and she's down by 300

looks like she will lose it

Big victory for negative campaigns today.

Not upset by that at all. Positive, sappy campaigns kind of make me want to puke. I love a good attack ad.

So they are to the right of the Alberta PCs then?

I'd consider the BC Liberals to be a coalition of Federal Conservatives and Liberals. Luckily the BC Cons were unable to gain any meaningful levels of support and the vast majority of right wing votes went to the Liberals.

I thought the Alberta PC's were a bit more like Campbells Liberals than Clarke's

maybe not though

Dix needs to stand still when he's making a speech. Why does he keep swaying side to side?

I wouldn't vote for the guy based on that alone.
