From my understanding she broke the quill to say no he will not be joining the Kingsguard, you win Tywin..
It seems to be how everyone perceived it in the GoT thread as well.

I can see that, it is just that him joining the guard would seem to make it align with the books.
But since they have made Loras the heir, I suppose that requires an ongoing divergence from the books.

The Bear and the Maiden Fair" is the seventh episode of the third season of HBO's fantasy television series Game of Thrones, and the 27th episode of the series. The episode has been written by George R. R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels on which the series is based, and directed by Michelle MacLaren in her first collaboration with the show. It will air on May 12, 2013.[1]
The episode will advance the storylines of Daenerys' arrival to the city of Yunkai, the repercussions of the upcoming marriage of Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark, and Brienne's fate at the ruined castle of Harrenhal.
Judging by the name I think we will see Brienne fighting the bear in the pit, and Jamie returning to save her..

Reading the other thread is almost as entertaining as seeing how the books are adapted to TV.
Watching this with my wife, who has never read the books and she asked me at the end of last nights episode - "If that Roose Bolton guy is Robb's bannerman, why would he give Jaime back to King's Landing?"
I had to laugh at this from tvguide.com's recap of the last episode:
Quote:
Robb Stark (Richard Madden) Who would have thought the Robb's bumbling uncle Edmure (Tobias Menzies) would be the answer to the King in the North's problems? By agreeing to marry one of Walder Frey's daughters, Edmure has secured more men for Robb to fight the Lannisters. Sacrifices must be made in wartime, and it's so much better when your subjects do the sacrificing for you!
I can't believe how impatient people are to have some sort of resolution to the Theon line. I am a bit surprised the show is giving it as much time as they did.
I can't wait for all the "holy crap" moments to come in the final 3 episodes.

What's the deal with Gendry and the Red Priestess?? Seems like the show is creating a new storyline that is different from the books (so far).
I like it actually. Melisandre basically goes missing in the books for a long period until she meets up with John Snow, this makes her relevant. Obviously she attempt to sacrifice Gendry and that's how Davos will free himself from the dungeons by appealing to Stannis' humanity.

Very well done scene with Theon and the two girls. So much tension. I can't remember, in the book does he get his dick cut off?

Yes. It's very strongly suggested. I forget the line or whatever Reek's thoughts were (POV chapter) but it's pretty much a sure thing it was cut off. Something like his finger down there or something...
While they have combined Gendry and Edric (which makes me nervous that they are "spoiling" the future role of those characters in the books), I'm not sure why they appear to be going back to King's Landing.

I couldn't tell if they were going there or just sailing by the shore? Perhaps they are en route to Eastwatch Bay on The Wall.

I'm assuming they are just sailing past it on their way to Dragonstone.
I think old Karstark was right, Robb really seems to have taken his eye off the ball ever since he met Talisa and they started spending all their time playing a game of bones. he even ended their strategy meeting early I think so that he could launch another assault on House Maegyr. lucky for him it seems to be taking Tywin even longer to organize a counter-attack, he's too busy supporting the entire quill pen economy of Westoros.
