Where are you getting that its students?

I would have thought likely Tamerlan's wife and others who might have helped buy items or helped them after the fact.

Wow I wonder if this is handled differently in a terrorism related case?

"If they knew about the bombing, if they were involved in the bombing, the charges would be conspiracy to do the acts for which the other man has already been charged," Dershowitz told CNN. "So it sounds like at this point in time the only evidence they have is actions that took place after the bombing."
Maybe questioned after the fact and lied about the brothers whereabouts? This doesn't seem to suggest they were involved.

Police also thought that the younger brother's friends threw out his laptop at his request, so this could also be related to that.

Ya, from details on CNN:

-Lied to police about talking to Joker in the days following (including the day pictures were released).
- Disposed of evidence (sounds like laptop as well as a backpack of fireworks)

They will probably say they feared for their live and that they didnt want to be associated with a suspected terrorist so they lied. Most likely see little jail time and be deported.

I can imagine them doing it largely for the fear being known to be associated with terrorists and being thrown out of the country. So really covering their own butts more than doing something for their friend who turned out to be an actual terrorist.

Which would be stupid, but very human nature.

EDIT: ...and not really even that stupid for people coming from countries where distrusting the authorities can almost be a requisite attitude for survival.

In this case its pretty irrelevant what they're motivations are. They're going to get the book thrown at them, I think the minimum is 5 years, probably in a fed max security and then they'll be sent home.

Throw him into a supermax. Much better than the death penalty.

It looks like they had to amputate above the knees, when I looked at the gory pick I was hoping they could save them as it makes for a much easier "normal life" and walking.

You have to love this guys spirit!

Is there a reason beyond the fact that he was a Muslim that he cannot just be cremated at this point?

This would have been a more feel good story if he had lied about the burial plot and just invited people over to use the body for target practice.

If you're going to lock up teenage girls for saying/doing stupid things you're gonna have a bad time.
