I'm starting to realize that not all races are created equal. I can win very easily with two of them (57 points with Orion!), but the others are not so easy, if at all possible (Eridani is freaking useless).
First six player game (I was still able to isolate myself). I explore away from the center and face wormholes away from opponents. They only have a couple of ways into my territory, and they have to fight through each other first. I knew mid-way through the game that I would win. 28 10 10
9 points from battle VPs - only attacked opponent once in round 9 to claim 2 vp hex. 2 vp from diplomacy. 5 vp from middle tech track. Controlled 10 hexes for 16 vp.
I don't get how you're able to explore and keep 10 hexes worth anything of value without attacking anyone else. Which AI are you playing? Normal, passive or agressive?
I can't grow unless I've attacked at least two different races. You and I obviously play very different games.
This is a fun game. I need to find time to play it again with actual people. Have you tried the on-line game yet? Do you all have to be present at the same time, or can you take a turn and then log back in later to take another turn?
I took the centre hex in round 4 and didn't let it go. I built 2 monoliths and conquered 2 others from Orion in round 9. I had 1 point from diplomacy tiles, and 14 points from battles. 3 points from tech too.
I ended up owning 10 hexes, the most I've ever owned. I took over 5 hexes in the last two rounds by building cruisers with 3 plasma missiles and a gluon computer, and then just running them over a few areas. There's really no defending that combination of missiles and the gluon computer. Maybe a crazy amount of hull and a shield can help, but I don't know.

Normal AI so far. I go away from the Center. I conquer about 3 or 4 hexes from the ancients, and never really attack the bots. I usually end up with 10 hexes. They beat each other up in the middle. If someone came after me I would try to load up my choke points with ships. Human opponents would probably treat me differently.
That was a huge margin of victory in your last game!
I think you'd like to play Planta, if you haven't tried the alien races yet. Double explore, and you mainly get points for turtling, so you take over a lot of hexes early and try to hold on to them for the rest of the game for lots of points.
Agricola Submitted to Apple for Review Well, everyone, we're getting closer to having Agricola in our grubby little hands. Playdek just announced via Facebook that the iOS version of Uwe Rosenberg's classic has just been submitted to Apple for approval.

Finished second with the blue aliens (double research). Should have built some orbitals to generate more money early on. Planta won by 10 points, in 4 player game (all aliens).
Sure, sometime soon. We have a few different ships now, and my boys like to play the game (11 and 9). We splurged on the Falcon.
We should work something out then. I have 3 xwings, 1 ywing, the Falcon, 5 tie fighters and a TIE advanced.
Sounds like we could have a nice little battle. I like how I can play some basic rules (no pilots and upgrades) with my son (7) and then full on rules with 'grown ups' - good flexibility.
I am very excited for a game I found on Kickstarter called Xia: Legends of a Drift system.
One of my favorite games when I was growing up was Wing Commander: Privateer. For me it was the first open-world sandbox game where you could fly around to many different places and do whatever you wanted: trade cargo, hunt pirates, be a pirate, etc. Other examples are Elite, Freelancer, Sundog: Frozen Legacy, the list goes on.
Finally there's a board game which looks to bring that experience to the tabletop. Its got a lot of really cool ideas and even the prototype minis for the ships look fantastic. Very excited for this one!
Went to fabricland the other weekend for a huge piece of black felt to play Xwing on - never felt so ashamed and also so excited. LOL
How big? I was thinking of getting a 3' x 3' vinyl banner made, with a star field. FF will be releasing tiles soon that snap together to form the play area.
I got a 2' x 3' game mat laminated from an older Star Wars game.
Overkill I know but we sometimes play 2v2 200-300 point dog fights on our kitchen table. We'll play standard 3' by 3' if it's just 1v1 100 point matches.
