Nosehill will be next, I'm sure. Dead grass, thistle and litter are a nasty combination.

Just watching the global coverage, and yeah, those houses that are on the west side across sarcee is right where I live. So less than a KM from my house. hopefully they extinguish it quickly.

They have a ton of CFD crews on scene along with crews from Springbank, Redwood Meadows and Alberta SRD - a jump over Sarcee is something you can bet they would do everything in there power to stop.

This is "great". All well timed for another May long weekend fire ban. (probably combined with wet/cool weather). Been down that road before.

You wouldn't believe the number of fire calls we get from people throwing their cigarettes into the planters on their patios.
At least they're burning up their own stuff.

Were a couple of these caused by trains? CP says they have spark reducers but seems odd they keep lighting near tracks, there was an early season one a few weeks ago in Ogden, and one on the CP line north of Calgary.

I read something on Global that said it was all started along the rail line. So chances are decent it was from the trains. Several years ago when we lived in Innisfail, we had a dry year like this, and CP came through one day and about set the town on fire. Spot fires from just past Penhold on the 2A, through Innisfail, and almost out to the Bowden Pen. Townspeople were out in their back yards with the hoses, trying to help - firefighters could hardly keep up. With the tracks right through town, there were a lot of homes that had the tracks right out their back yards/gates. That was a scary day.
We drove in from east of Calgary and could see the smoke cloud by the time we hit city limits. Had to drive over to the Market Mall area (appts) and by the time we got over there, figured it had to be in Bowness. Thank LRon that the CFD had so much extra help.
