Your Top 3 goalies for Canada's Olympic Team in 2014
Based on the conversation this morning on the FAN 960 with Walker and Francis and the play of the goalies this past regular season and playoffs..who are your top 3?
I feel like Fleury had the upper-hand till now..with another set of poor performances in the playoffs, which may most be to mental toughness..who do we go with?
I'm liking Carey Price but even he had a poor month leading up to the playoffs but may still be able to recover in time for next year..
They listed names as Luongo, Holtby, Crawford, Ward, Smith and Dubnyk..
1) Carey Price
2) Roberto Luongo
3) Marc-Andre Fleury or Braden Holtby

Anderson and Crawford could be in the mix if they have good starts next year. I think Ward is definitely there if he he's back to 100%.

Sorry, I meant to include Mike Smith as well..he's been solid for the past 2 years with a mediocre team in front and in a tough Western conference

Found it this morning that Anderson is American haha..but I feel he should be behind Quick, and not Miller..

I'd go with Ward if he's healthy. I'm not exactly excited about any of the options though.

Luongo is the starter provided the wheels don't fall off next year.

Mike Smith? Ugh a good season and an average season on the defensive minded Coyotes makes him a Team Canada goalie??

Price, Fleury and Luongo?
Have to be the top candidates.
That's scary as hell.

Rag on the guy all you want but Luongo is on the team IMO. He has a bad contract but is a good goalie.
My 3 goalies are:
Luongo
Price
Ward
Crawford could fight his way on the team as a #3 as well.
Don't give the starters job out until a week or so before the medal round.
MAF sucks and should be nowhere near the team IMO.

Could always ask Martin Brodeur again if Luongo is feeling sad (again)

Good lord, this thread is depressing.
What happened to our Canadian goalie developmental system?

that speaks more to the lack of three good goalie options for Canada. What was once a strength over nearly every nation is now Canada's biggest weakness

I'm not even sure what Fleury's issue may even be..He has superstars like Crosby and Malkin taking all the heat as their go to guys, and yet he seems like he is so mentally fragile..I understand letting in goals if they are good shots but circus goals night after night in the playoffs is inexcusable..
Now Price is in a totally different situation..he's looked at as the team's MVP and 'take the fall' guy

Price
Smith
Ward/Holtby
Smith gets a bum rap I think. Dude is technically sound and a big puck stopper. Has amazing numbers over the past few seasons and gets overlooked because he's in PHX.
Price should be the starter, but he is liable to have a down year and be right out of it.
Holtby is a gamer when it matters. Would love for him to take it.
Ward needs to avoid getting hut mowing his lawn or doing the dishes.
**Pure bias that 7uongo is not even in consideration.
