Default 2013 Draft: Who is going to drop?

Every year, there's at least one player that is available to be picked much lower than the scouting agencies rank them.

2011 it was Sean Couturier (ranked 3rd - picked at 8)
2012 it was Filip Forsberg (ranked 2nd - picked at 11)

Other than Nichushkin, who do you think might drop this year?

My pick is Drouin.

Who had Forsberg ranked 2? Most people had Yakupov, Murray, Galchenyuk then Forsberg

Contributing to the discussion I think that Fucale will fall out of the 1st round, and that if any of the top 7 fall it will be Monahan to ~10

Hopefully MacKinnon or Barkov, not likely though.

Realistically, I think other than Nichushkin none of the top 4-5 guys drop much, if at all.

Hopefully OP is right though, and Drouin drops.

My pick (and hope) is Barkov. He ended the season with a shoulder injury and missed the U18 tournament where a lot of teams like to make some final observations. And there are some dark horse, like Nurse, Nichushkin and Lindholm that could possibly squeaze their way in there.

Not to take anything away from Barkov though. I think if he does slip, teams that didn't pick him will live to regret it.

Just a quick search and I don't know how reliable it is but they're citing ISS June 2012 rankings (which I didn't bother looking for)

So you're thinking that even the Flames might pass on him?

...because going from 4 to 6 isn't really a "drop".

Don't see Drouin dropping.

I really don't see many of the top 6-7 guys dropping out of the top 6-7. Hopefully I'm wrong though and somebody amazing drops to 6.

I wouldn't put it past us, espcially after Feaster's comments about "the kid from Sweden" giving the top picks some competetion.

I agree that the top 4 appears to be set in stone. At least according to all the media, but the NHL scouts may have differing opinions or draft by holes they want to fill.

Source? When did he say that?
Just curious...

Was that a Feaster comment or was it Weisbrod? Either way it was a year ago and thus not hugely relevant anymore. Scouting opinions will have changed considerably over the past year.

I'm guessing the Flames have MacKinnon, Jones, Barkov and Drouin in their top 4.

Hunter Shinkaruk.

Combination of lack of size coupled with teams drafting needs as well as some players rising draft stock (ie Max Domi) will have this guy fall from top ten range to mid-to-late first round.

I think it was Button, not Feaster that said that.

Barkov drops to the Flames. Why? Because I sacrificed a chicken to the hockey gods (and by default, my stomach) to make it happen.

Really though, in the broad spectrum of things, Max Domi drops like a rock because of his size and the comparable players around his ranking.

Yeah, that was Button that said that and as FDW mentioned it was a year ago.

Besides, if Barkov were to slip to us, I'd imagine it would probably have something to do with Lindholm already being gone ahead of him, so he likely wouldn't be an option for the Flames to take instead of Barkov.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that Monahan gets drafted 10-12. I think we snag Nichushkin and trade our other two picks to be within range of Monahan.

I gotta dream.

perhaps Mantha falls to late in the first round or even out of the first round? Being soft or lacking in effort ought to be a red flag
