Default Avs press conference. Re: Joe Sakic

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Avs call media conf for this aft. Likely to announce Sakic's expanded role. Tons of spec re: Roy as coach, but don't expect that today.

Press conference at 1pm

Likely moving into some sort of upper management role similar to what Elway has with the Broncos.

Hopefully for their fans Sakic can add some competence as much like the Flames and Oilers that franchise is a joke.

Yep. Just keep his hands from using any equipment that could be remotely dangerous. Not so commonsensical in that respect.

Hiring famous ex-players to run a hockey team is a fool-proof plan.

It's more of a "John Elway" role as I understand it.

the optics of it for Denver will help

Elway has done a phenomenal job in the same capacity with the Broncos

as long as he hires the right people around him having Sakic involved can only help, great guy to help sway free agent, help young players etc.

Now that they're outside the Flames division, I'll be cheering for them to do well... Salic is my fave non-Flame of all time, hopefully he kicks ass in his new role.

I will never forget when Sakic handed the Cup off to Bourque to raise it first, such a class act that guy.

I like Burnaby Joe, however, I don't think he will be able to put his finger on the problems in Denver.

The Avs were a disgrace this season. There's tanking, and then they're what they did. An absolute disgrace they were rewarded with a No. 1 pick with players so blatantly not showing up to play.

Piere Lacroix out as President huh?

Given he and Feaster's history together, and the periodic rumors of King stepping up to deal with the whole Flames family of business's (less direct involvement with Flames as a team), maybe Lacroix comes to CGY as President of Hockey Op's?

Just spitballing.

I think the arrival of Seth Jones and the maturation of players like Duchene, Landeskog and ROR will give the false illusion that Sakic is a genius in the next couple of years

This is not like the boys on the bus up north; Sakic in a senior managing role and as an advisor/abmassador is a complete win. Just like Elway. Avs have done well to mimic the Broncos in this way.

And as an OT comment: I really hope we see a repeat of that video above this year with a certain #12 getting his long awaited moment of glory and celebration.

Even if they added Sakic and Roy to their management team, it's still not as many cup rings as the Oilers, and that's what you need for success in this league.

Sakic and Roy - 6 total
Lowe and Mactavish - 7? 8?
