Avalanche interested in Coyotes' Tippett?
http://www.foxsportsarizona.com/nhl/...25&feedID=9050
Tippett has repeatedly made it plain he wants to remain in Phoenix, where he and his wife, Wendy, just built a home. But the Coyotes’ continued ownership saga, and the low-budget restraints it has placed on him and soon-to-be free agent GM Don Maloney over the past four seasons have reached a boiling point because both are tired of entering each season with an undermanned roster.
“We have a lot of players that work hard — in the guts of the game, they’re good players,” Tippett said recently. “But at some point, we need some difference-makers.”
“I have not and will not talk to any other organization until my contract has expired,” he wrote. “I am still hopeful there is a resolution in Phoenix.”
If there is not by July 1, however, Tippett has made it clear he will do what he must.
“Obviously, they have to have an ownership in place here,” he said. “If a new owner comes in and says, ‘Hey, we’re going to continue to build this,’ I’d love to talk to him, but if there’s nobody in place by July 1, I have to look at other options.

So Tippett would go from coaching one of the whiniest bunch of sucks to coaching THE whiniest bunch of sucks in the league. That's called advancement.

There's no such thing as horrible winning. He adapts to the talent around him. You aren't going to win games playing run and gun with the Coyotes pop gun attack. Top 5 coach in the NHL without a doubt. I still can't understand how he had that Coyotes teams in the playoffs and even the Western Conference Finals with the patchwork rosters of NHL castoffs.

You gotta think Tippet would rather go to Denver than Vancouver. Colorado is on the upswing, lots of young talent, but has sucked recently so low expectations. Perfect storm for a coach to look like a genius if they make a dramatic improvement. Vancouver is much riskier, an older team with some serious flaws that has been a recent contender. Unless he thinks he can win a cup in Vancouver right away, I suspect he'd pick the Avalanche.

There is merit there as it would be easy for him to go to Colorado and do a 180 with that team. Vancouver not so much as it's not like AV is chopped liver and the best years are all behind most of the players on the team.

One potential contributing factor is that the Avalanche are run like a minor league team in every way possible. Small front office staff, crappy charter travel nowhere near as good as the Canucks (or any Canadian team), low budget on the hockey ops side, etc.
EDIT: Sounds like the Avs got out of their horrible charter deal so no issues there. They're with Air Canada now.

Unless Glendale is willing to handle it themselves, which may be the case, they need to come to terms with the fact that the price is whatever the market dictates it is. It may only take $6mil to do it, but nobody is going to bid at cost, and the less competition there is the less pressure to cut down profit margin. There's also the element of uncertainty, if bidders have questions as to long term viability they're going to demand increased prices to take on that risk.

When do you guys think a deal needs to be finished by, before the NHL says "it's over" and moves the team?
