My wife dragged me in to browse around quick last night. The only thing I noticed is that the location we were at had a Starbucks instead of the normal fast food type area that I have seen in the US locations. No more bags of popcorn and foamy slurpees for me and the kids to entertain ourselves with while she shops.
I guess canadians needed yet another implanted starbucks store??
So I am not asking for myself, but a fiend of mine wants to know what store you go to?
Tell your fiend that I was busy working yesterday so all stores are open for claiming. To be honest, though, the employees have probably done it already.

Looked down on isn't really right, but I can't wrap my head around why anyone would want to go to any big box store on any day. Just seems like the most miserable possible experience to subject yourself to, especially when it's crowded.
I get in a case like Bertuzzied's, he saved a bunch of money that he couldn't have elsewhere (I presume), but to just go look around or save 8c on toilet paper? Seems nuts.
Yeah, it's bizarre to me as well. Last weekend my girlfriend said "Oh, Target is opening next week. We'll have to go." I just kinda looked at her for a second and then said "Why?"

Wait, so at Market Mall, there's a SB in Target, one in Safeway, one by the Apple store and one by the Shoppers, add in that Teavana is owned by Starbucks and that gives them five locations in that mall?
Time to go give David's Tea my cash

We have Starbucks in Target here, too.
Target used to have really incredible clearance sales. I liked to go there to check out the end caps for some pretty awesome discounts on cool stuff. That seems to have gone by the wayside.
They used to have a garden center and often had plants that were hard to find elsewhere. I remember getting a $250 porch swing for 30 bucks on clearance. That kind of thing was typical.
I thought the men's clothing section at Chinook was really awful. I was hoping to find a place for some good, inexpensive dress shirts and ties. Instead, it was baja hoodies and tye-dye shirts!
i cruzed thru chinook today at lunch and thought is was a little less junky than Zellers. Seemed like they still did nto have a lot of inventory in certain sections.
It is nice to be able to have a spot in chinook to be able to pick up something like Armour all and blank cassette tapes because I want to make my baby a mix tape for Mothers day.

..... And now there's open speculation that Target may have to close down stores or withdraw from Canada altogether...
Quote:
Industry observers suggest that the Minneapolis-based company, which suffered a massive data breach five months ago, needs to look at major changes to its fledgling Canadian stores and possibly close some of them. Some company watchers say Target will have to consider shutting its operations here entirely within the next year or two if their performance doesn’t improve significantly.
“It is conceivable that they will close Canada,” Faye Landes, retail analyst at Cowen and Co. in New York, said in an interview. “I assume with a new CEO, everything will be on the table.”
I guess that's what happens when you lose $941 million in a year. Still - reinforces my view that the time horizon for most American companies is about 6 months out before new management changes course 180 degrees.
I actually like Target. Their Mossimo shoes are pretty good, good organic coffee, found an awsome plastic mesh/armored glass bottle, found cheap carpet cleaner and good air filters. Target has some items that are actually pretty good quality. The Mossimo boots I put through the harshest winter storms and they still look brand new.

Target in Canada just isn't the same experience. I've been to the local store only a few times since opening. They just don't have the same quality, prices or service they do in the US. I am not surprised they are struggling.
Every time I go to Target, it's almost completely empty.
I think Walmart has a stranglehold on that type of market.
I went to the one in Shawnessy the other day and it was a complete ghost town. Walmart around there is disgustingly busy and I can't bring myself to even shop there.
I noticed that quite a few things that I usually buy were on sale and much cheaper than they usually are at Walmart or Superstore. It was quiet and convenient, reasonably priced... but holy crap the staff were the most rag tag looking group of rejects I've ever seen in my entire life.
I'll probably go back at some point, but it's pretty low on my list... slightly above Walmart for now.
