I don't know if this is the reason or not, but the last time I boarded a plane that was rear to front what the people in the rear would do is fill the front overhead bins with their baggage. (You know- the baggage that now costs money to check into the cargo hold.) So then the front people would board, and all the front bins would be full. Now flight attendants are trying to find places for baggage; all so the rear people could have a nice spot for their jacket.
I also don't know what that would do for the weight distribution of an aircraft either.
I've flown on ~30 airlines on all inhabited continents, and boarded a ton of different ways. There is no good way to get all of the morons other passengers on the plane.
out of curiosity: what would be an acceptable way to respond?
I don't know, how about acknowledging the customer's concerns instead of trying to refute them with share prices? Nothing more arrogant than a company that thinks it knows how its customers feel more than the customers themselves.

I was on a flight a few weeks after that whole "underwear bomber" incident happened. For a short while after the incident they were not allowing carry on luggage or bags onto the planes and women's purses had to be a certain size...anyway...that was the fastest plane loading and unloading of people I have ever experienced! It was awesome! Wish these rules were still in place.
As someone who constantly takes Westjet to Palm Springs:
- continuously late
- planes either have no televisions or satellite is down
- exhobriant prices
I can't wait until Rouge is in place. Air Canada is by far my choice of carriers now. Excellent service, entertainment and in-flight amenities (USB, power, etc)
They're not allowed to show the TV when flying over the U.S. At least that was the excuse they gave me when I flew to Palm Springs and it didn't work.

By far the best method I've ever seen was loading through the front and back Exits. WJ used to do it, what happened?
I wasn't a fan of the phrasing "continue to provide exceptional customer experience". Unless there are BJ's, no customer service experience is 'exceptional'.
There are. You just have to be over 6 feet.

You'd think if you weren't "allowed" to show TV on flights to the US (which make up a huge bulk of your business), you'd figure out some different options fairly quickly

Bell switched satellites last year which made the signal unusable just south of the border.
Waiting for govt to approve wifi which may come this year. Didnt want to spend a bunch of $$ for a interim solution.

Don't EVER fly Air Canada. They are one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. Not just airline, COMPANY. Air Canada charges $25 bucks a bag starting with THE FIRST CHECKED BAG for flights to the US. They have hidden fees in nearly every aspect of their business, and their flights are generally more expensive and less reliable. If you have to fly, and you aren't a giant (see above.) then fly West Jet. Air Canada is the freaking worst.
Having flown on about 20+ different airlines, AirCanada is one of the better airlines out there.

To be fair, the flight I was on provided free video on demand movies because of that issue while we were flying over the US.
Just got back from St. Maarten after taking WestJet the whole way, certainly not the airline I remember. I understand the whole tv thing south of the border but what really irked me a bit was domestic flight between Calgary and Toronto. Apparently we hopped on to one of their newest planes and they hadn't installed the tv's in the back of any of the seats yet. Their solution was to hand out tablets preloaded with all the movies you would normally have access to and tv shows but you had to pay $10 to use them. I realize it's a small fee but old west jet would have handed them out for free me thinks.
That and their freakin rows of seats all seem closer together. Got stuck in the middle seat on both flights there and back and that stupid little box under the middle seat really limits leg room. I'm only 6 feet and was uncomfy, must be hell for taller folks.
However, the worst part was, getting on the plane in St. Marteen the check in lady asked if we wanted the emergency exit. HELL YES! However it wasn't the emergency exit, it was the row in front. Guess what, those seats don't recline. Ones in front of you sure do though. So got robbed of the glorious emergency exit seats AND got mashed when the lady in front of me was kind enough to fully recline her seat during take off which made her seat snap back into my knees. Was not a happy camper.
It's official. Flew between Toronto and Calgary this week. No television, no usb charging ports, no Coke Zero. Both ways brand new aircraft, but it was like flying in the 1980's. Let's call it time travel.
I have a family member who works at westjet, so I fly westjet a fair amount, probably 25-30 flights in the last year.
I had the misfortune of flying on one of the new planes on a trip back from Vegas last month, and f me I won't fly with westjet again outta fear I get stuck on one of those again. Screw the inflight entertainment missing I can deal with that but at 6'2" quite simply they have crossed the line, there is not enough room anymore. I've got some friends in the 6'3 to 6'5 range I've flown with before and it was pretty tight before, be downright impossible now.
But good on westjet for squeezing the extra 2 rows of seats on the planes. hope the extra revenue they get from the capacity increase outweighs the fact they just shrunk the size of the demographic that will fly on their planes.
I remember flying in some tight seats in Europe on Ryanair and BMI but that I could deal with seeing as it was a 30 minute flight i paid like 20 bucks for. But the thought of shelling out 600 bucks to fly to Toronto and spending 4 hours in one of those sardine cans. Hell no. It's unfortunate I did rather like westjet.
I'll say this. I'm not a huge apologist for airlines. Especially AC. However flying a massive aircraft at 500mph, At 35000 feet for a few hours for maybe 250 bucks is pretty amazing when you think about it.
I wouldn't know how to do that. Deal with weather, customers, airport traffic and the burden of perfect safety records and make everyone happy.
People complaining about a TV seems trivial and high maintaince to me.
