Oh I agree. I guess I always bought the "all he needs is a number one center" crap. It looks like we were off by one number one center, because the only time he's looked half way decent is when he's playing with the two best centers in the world simultaneously on the power play.

That's the right call.

What's crazy is that in a normal year (where the cap didn't go down) the Pens could possibly get rid of Fleury somehow and pick up someone like Mike Smith. Not this year though. They're in big time cap trouble next season.

There's also the elephant in the room of Malkin's contract. No Pittsburgh fans seem to want to talk about it, but there's a reason Shero is going all in here. I don't think he feels he'll be able to re-sign Malkin after next year.

Amnesty buyout, sign Smith.

He did have one. His name was Daymond Langkow. But I guess a tough, gritty 2-way center who fights in the trenches and picks up 60-70 pts just isn't good enough.

He only has 2 years left at a $5 million cap hit, so they could easily move him if they wanted to. He's been shaky in the playoffs since winning the Cup, but he's still a good regular season goalie, and half the teams in the league are more concerned about getting to the playoffs than they are about what will happen once they get there.

I'm really liking the way the Isles are playing. It's always fun to root for an underdog, plus I could never pull for a team with Matt Cooke on it.

Go Islanders?

Also, the atmoshere in the coliseum is incredible on TV. I had no idea that that market had such a passionate fan base. However, I really havent seen to many games televised out of that rink since I was 10 years old, outside of Flames games.

hahahhaa you are blaming your penguin woes on Iginla? haha

While i'm not the biggest Iginla fan he can't help your crap assed goaltending and defence.

he could be 2004 Iggy or 1985 Gretzky and you guys aren't winning the cup.

Smith has proven in the past couple of seasons that he's legit and if you have a chance to get him signed then buying out MAF is a possibility. However I don't know if Penguins ownership has the money to eat deals like that.

The Penguins don't have the cap room to make a trade for say Luongo without dealing money back and Luongo's deal would make it impossible to re-sign Malkin.

I may be biased, but I say we see a rejuvenated Pens with Vokoun. Pens in 6

Also, Iggy hasn't looked very good (outside of point totals), but outside of the Crosby line, Neal, and Cooke I can't think of any Pens who have

Has he? There's something about that dreadful Coyotes trap that gets goalies paydays. I wouldn't trust any goalie's numbers behind that thing.

Oh no, I'm not blaming him. I just throw up in my mouth a little every time I see someone still singing his praise on calgarypuck. I'm thoroughly embarrassed about what he's brought to the Penguins these playoffs as a Flames fan.

It's all Fleurys fault. The penguins defense is fine. It's just when a goalie starts practically scoring on himself his team will panic and collapse around him and who can blame them really? What are they supposed to do... have faith in Fleury to make routine saves... buahah. I said that I hoped he tweaked something in game 3 and I still wish he had. The end result would have probably been the same.. no Fleury for the rest of this series, but he wouldn't have been given the opportunity to hand the islanders game 4 on a silver platter.

Really?? ... He has 7 points in 4 games I believe. Yup, definitely dragging these champions down.

The islanders have always had a decent fan base, I hear that the coliseum is a brutal arena. Many are probably throwing caution aside to watch games there. surprised the roof didn't cave in.

This is patently false.

No, Fleury hasnt been as good as he needs to, particularly last night.

But.

the amount of horrendous turnovers the guys in front of him are committing (forwards and defensemen) are so much more to blame for whats happening than any single player.

What has become blatantly obvious is that the Pens are really struggling with the speed of the Islanders and have yet to adjust for it in terms of playing in their own end......again resulting in turnovers all over the ice, which almost always end up in scoring chances.

The Isles have a real shot at this thing now IMO.

I love Iggy, he's been pretty terrible on 5-5 tbh.... This is the only place I see singing his praises right now.. Looking at stats Geno's been good too........

I honestly blame DB though. Iggy looked bad on LW, they switch him to RW and he does REALLY well.. so they move him back to LW for some god unknown reason. He looks terribly uncomfortable there

EVERY time they've had Kunitz - Geno - Neal together they've been AMAZING

Every time ANYONE's with crosby they tear up. Kunitz- Sid - Dupuis isn't some magical format... he makes everyone great. They put COLBY ARMSTRONG on Sid's line on both of their ROOKIE seasons and Colby had 40 points in 47 games

Dupuis - Sid- Iggy
Kunitz - Geno- Neal

Its so obvious that needs to happen

And he was a great player when he was playing with them. The problem the Flames had then was they didn't have enough other high skill forwards to prevent opposing playoff teams from being able to eliminate the Flames by stopping Iginla. Now that he's older and slower, he's still a very good player, but not able to carry a team on his back - but now he doesn't have to.

People are expecting way too much from Iginla. He's not Iggy 2004, he's Iggy 2013. He's now a complimentary player. To expect him to take over a series is asking a little much IMO. And I agree with GoIggy, he's looked terrible on the LW. DB has a wealth of quality forwards and Sidney Freaking Crosby, yet he's still screwing it up.
