I wasn't here earlier, but what were people's thoughts on the Bieksa penalty?

That was not boarding. Shoulder to shoulder, and contact wasn't initially driven into the boards. Momentum drove them there, when they were already half way down. What else is he suppose to do if he wants to lay a solid check? Refs made a bad call.

That may be...but the hockey gods always come back to haunt a team that has success because of diving.

Him and his twin cost the Canucks the series way before that hit.

Sharks actually went 7-0 vs Vancouver this year. 3-0 in the regular season and 4-0 in the playoffs.

The rule is highly open to interpretation according to the rule, and I feel that officials in this case felt yes that was the case. I just think it is a good call, my honest opinion.

The only one who didn't agree was Aaron Ward, and you know my thoughts on him.

Breaking tweet: Aaron ward just said that boarding penalty has just been traded to Boston!

Fraser says both (Bieksa's and Sedin's) were legit penalties. So take that for what it's worth. Schneider was crap anyways, fought the puck all night leaving bad rebounds. Canucks D did a lot of good work to clear most of the rebounds out throughout the game.
I hate the fact the media is fueling the fire for Canuck fans about officiating. They were going to go off the rails anyways, now.....well this should be interesting.

Fair enough, it really just needs to be called consistantly across the different games.

Who cares if the PPs were 24-10. PPs aren't meant to be even between teams. They're penalties for infractions.
I hate this perception that penalties should be relatively equal.

The problem I'd have with that call as a Canuck fan was that they let so much more go but call that. Still think it was boarding but they let a lot go to call that.

Like timbit said, brutal call, good result.
It was shoulder on shoulder and the SJ player lost balance. I'd be pissed also.
But it couldn't happen to a nicer group of dbag fans...

We'll have to agree to disagree as I think it was a dangerous hit as are all "boarding" plays. As someone else pointed out, it's very debatable on the consistency of the call being made but this is how I've always seen it called in addition to the hits from behind that we obviously see called more often.
Either way it's happy time, regardless of how it happened the hockey world was dealt a great gift this evening
