Mr Seymour, speaking to reporters yesterday, acknowledged that when he began dialling 911, he, too, had not quite cottoned on to the name of the young woman he was helping. Then it struck him – this was Amanda Berry, the disappeared girl that most people long ago had given up for dead. That was at 5.52pm. The police arrived two minutes later and forced their way in.

That is a fantastic response time. Good thing no one jumped to any conclusions based on the 911 call...

A possible reason why victims wouldn't seek help.

Lol

Can't be a CP thread without the revenge fantasy posts. Sometimes I wonder if this board is dedicated to hockey or Korean grindhouse cinema.

Not sure how important - but most news agencies have been blurring out the young girls face.

...The suspect's daughter was sentenced to 25 years for attempting to kill her own baby. It's not directly connected bu certainly relevant. Basically, the Ariel family are a bunch of messed up ####S.

Meh. I rarely have fantasy revenge things like that, but any case where men hold women against their will as their personal sex slaves really gets to me.

I dunno about you but my thought wasn't about the connection, it was about what he likely did to his own daughter to mess her up that badly. Another question was was her daughter also his. This could very well shed alot of light onto what his daughter did.

I think I missed an update that explains the connection, hence the confusion.

Haha I was just coming to post this exact twitter, that is awesome.

Pay him some money, give him a reward for being an amazing human being, put him in a commercial. Yes, he is amazing, because he put himself at risk to protect those in need.

I hope he brings his entourage.

The Stockholm Syndrome seems to me the best idiosyncrasy for why captives don't try to escape.

Quote:
Stockholm syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, Sweden, in which several bank employees were held hostage in a bank vault from August 23 to August 28, 1973. During this situation, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, rejected assistance from government officials at one point and even defended them after they were freed from their six-day ordeal.[

911 operator could be in some hot water

Quote:
At a time when the country is celebrating the bravery of three kidnapping victims and the heroism of their rescuer, unexpected public ire has fallen on the 911 operator who received Amanda Berry's heart-wrenching plea for help — particularly for not remaining on the line with her until the police arrived.
Quote:
The criticism reached Cleveland city officials, who said Tuesday they will review the actions of the 911 operator.

"While the call-taker complied with policies and procedures which enabled a very fast response by police, we have noted some concerns which will be the focus of our review, including the call-taker’s failure to remain on the line with Ms. Berry until police arrived on scene. Please be assured that this matter will be investigated, and if necessary, appropriate corrective action taken," said Martin L. Flask, director of the city's Department of Public Safety in a statement.
