a sad day for (movie) nerds - Ray Harryhausen, the man who perfected stop-motion animation, died today. Even though computer animation has long surpassed dynamation (his term for stop-motion), I've always thought that stop-motion had a definite charm. I can only guess at how many people he inspired.
Asked in 2010 which of his creatures was his favorite, Harryhausen told the Star-Ledger newspaper in New Jersey, ”Oh, I couldn’t tell you that. The rest of them would get jealous.“
This is still one of the coolest sequences on film:

Harryhausen's work on the original Clash Of The Titans inspired me to make stop motion flip books with plasticine and disposable film when I was a kid.
Sad news, but he certainly lived a long and varied life.
