But Target to me is another crap shack selling the same lower-end merchandise (pardon my ignorance). I read the National Post article today and they are saying something like "keeping Canadian dollars in Canada." But really we are still feeding the American owners.
Right. Cause none of the revenue is going to pay employees or local distribution companies.
I have a question to the people that wonder why others are going to Target on the first day before everyone else. Do you guys go to the premiere opening of movies as well? Aren't the two pretty similar? You want to be the first to check something out?
Personally, I wouldn't go because I hate the crowds. I want to see Iron Man 3 but I'll probably wait either a month or when it comes out on Blue Ray.

Nope, not me. I'd also say there's a pretty big difference between going to a movie that you're excited to see and going to a store that is basically the same as any other big box store except it has new signs and colors. If there's some sort of door buster sale that saves you a bunch I get it, but going just to wander around seems bizarre to me.

I don't really have to worry about spoilers for Target.
"Can you believe they put the housewares next to the hardware?"
"Hey, come on, some of us haven't had a chance to go shopping yet."

I think there is a pretty big difference in going to a store that provides excellent value and better quality then other similar stores then goinf to see a movie that is basically the same as any other comic book movie.
Same thing
I should add that my wife is quite excited for it to open but I expect to be disappointed the same way everytime a store from the US opens here. Prices are higher, selection is worse and service is worse. I do like target in the US because their kids clothes are very high quality at a low price. Even if they bring in the same clothes (Zellars had about half of the brands) the 30% to 50% increase in price will kill any value they have.

Spoilers for movies aren't a big deal
Spiderman defeated the Green Goblin! Is that a spoiler?
Iron Man saves the day!
I think spoilers for movies is blown out of proportion.
Like I said, I don't like shopping or going to movies but although both scenarios aren't exactly the same, there are some similarities.
People want to be the first to go to Target/see a movie
Nothing wrong with that if that's their preference. Don't see the need to critisize others if they want to brave the crowds.
Not saying you are critisizing others for checking out Target but there seems to be vibe that I get that people are looked down at for wanting to go to Target on the first day

Really? It's virtually identical products at the same price point. It's not revolutionary. It's just an American brand in Canada.

Looked down on isn't really right, but I can't wrap my head around why anyone would want to go to any big box store on any day. Just seems like the most miserable possible experience to subject yourself to, especially when it's crowded.
I get in a case like Bertuzzied's, he saved a bunch of money that he couldn't have elsewhere (I presume), but to just go look around or save 8c on toilet paper? Seems nuts.

I agree with you as I hate shopping. I've only been to Chinook once or twice since they did their renovations years ago.
But I also have the same feeling towards movie theatres. I hate going there. It's crowded, expensive and you can't pause the movie if you want to go to the bathroom or get a snack. I don't get why movies don't get the same negative treatment.

My Yankee friends call it the $200 store. That they never seem to leave without spending that much. I can never quite figure that out - unless they have Super Targets like Super WalMarts? We've been to them a few times when in the US and there are certain things that I liked about it and would pick up stuff from there, but never once have we ever hit the $200 mark.
A friend went to the Market Mall store - said it was insanely busy and all she bought was hairspray. Thinking no way in hell am I standing in those lineups for a bottle of hairspray that I can pick up closer to home without spending gas money to get there. Bertuzzied's deal on the formula sounds like a worthwhile trip though.

I think the colours are still pretty much the same as they were when it was Zellers, at least that was my experience at US Targets.

There kids clothes are better than walmart and superstore and in the US are priced competitively. If that pricing is maintained crossing the boarder then it will be a pretty good store and much better than zellers
